OL Laken Tomlinson, signs with NYJ

Played well for us last year, especially down the stretch. Not a bad contract. Nice signing.
If he plays solid then we can a nice guard for cheap. Looks like the other guard spot is the only spot on the line in competition.

You losing your s**t about every single thing the Niners do is oh so predictable LOL.

You're right this is predictable this is the same front office that are paying ward and AA almost $20 million combined, paying a 3rd down rb $12 million next year and $137 for a qb that only started 5 games for you. So yeah shouldn't be too surprised right.

To a certain extent these are gambling bets. You bet that they will perform as expected or more - to earn the money paid them. If you lose the bet, you cut them and take the cap hit. The more uncertain bets, like Attaochu or Cooper, they've hedged their bets more. Ideally you want the have the highest cap payout because you have great players, like the Warriors. Even Jimmy is a gamble, I think it's a good gamble, but still a gamble. We'll soon find out in wins and losses if these gambles pay out or not.
1 more spot to go. Who's gonna be it? #TeamGarnett #TeamCoop #TeamPerson #TeamMag #TeamSexie

Exactly we'll soon see if they have spent wisely.

IMO, KS must have seen something really good for him to make this move.
Obviously so in both cases.

This deal puts him about at #23 among all guards in the league - just about where his overall ranking was with PFF. With guard value going up, if he performs at all close to what Kyle is hoping, he will be a bargain in this 2nd and 3rd years. Even if he does no better than the last half of last season, he will still be a bargain.
solid guard, now if we can only get someone to replace josh trashnett, we would have a solid oline

We will see how this contract looks, but in the grand scheme of NFL contracts these aren't major gambled IMO...JG has $48 million in guarantees, so throw out the whole we paid him $137 million nonsense...if he's turns into aaron Rogers he will see all that cash, if not he's gone in two yrs without putting the team in major cap hell.

AA's contract is only injury guaranteed for next yr...the gamble is if he can't pass a physical next April (which is sketchy) in reality they can move on from him with zero dead money, I believe. Ward is a backup that's getting paid too much. BUT He can play every position and if you think about that (and how much you save by not having to pay backup money at all those spots) then it's not that wild. Personally, I just don't think he's really that great but as a backup it's fine.

Finally without this contract (don't know the breakdown) SF has $46 million in cap space and another $32 million next yr...throw in a couple easy cuts and they're rolling into next yr with around $90 million to play with...they can afford whatever they want.

Why so hard on Garnett - he's a totally different player now. Give him a chance to show what he's got.

Nice! And I have to hand it to Trent Taylor blocking on Yannick, man that was a *good block*!!

That block may be why Taylor has a bad back.

Edit: That is such a well designed play. Staley's block on Jack is what sprung him. I have not been this excited about the potential of the 49er offense in a LONG time.

LG locked up for 3yrs, his play with garoppolo was good over last 5 games, now we got cooper person Garnett and magnuson competing for rg with top two being backups, this is great news, put most of the money on the books this year with extra cap space

cause i have no reason to think otherwise? bust till proven otherwise, he sucked his rookie year and has been injured since, so why should i be optimistic going in about him?

AA is making 3 million this season, so Ward and AA are on the books for roughly 11.5 million this year. Your math is almost as bad as your football "opinions".

Damn so all our rookies this yr are busts because they haven't proven otherwise?
I'm all for Garnett getting a shot. Yea he was bad as a rookie but that's only one season. I didn't give up on AA after one bad year. It took several
