Not a fan of stats like this.... this could also mean QB play is better versus guard play being better. This is the trouble with PFF sometimes.

As long as he's playing better I don't care lol...good qb play will always make the OL better.

Until it doesn't. I'm not saying he wasn't playing better - what I'm saying is this stat doesn't show it. Was he playing better? Coaches can answer that better than I can I'm sure. In pass-pro, there were more "look out" blocks than I liked. Again, that could have been because what Kilgore was asked to do (protection calls). I just would count on these stats to demonstrate improvement without a doubt.

So averaged a hair over 1 hurry over 7 games, played next to Kilgore, came in 1 week before season opener and had to learn a new system and get in better shape for OZS... And we're complaining he came on strong at the end after grading out well as a top guard, even if potential with a TRUE QB?

Now will be going into year two with a full off season and musta had a solid off season to even get the extension? Cmon y'all, give Lynchahan the benefif of the doubt here. We're not hurting for money and if anything is insurance.

Yeah, Laken should be fine and will only get better.

Don't have all the details, but would be better if (like with all of the rest) the contract is heavily front loaded so we can get out of this after one year if he doesn't pan out

Yes "why don't wait" ...

That's a real witch right there.
I think it's safe to assume Laken starts at LG and Cooper RG(He got $4M GTD), with guys like Magnuson, Person, and Garnett fighting for spots.

On the deal, I'm not upset, he probably got per game roster bonuses, workout bonuses, and possibly a GTD roster bonus, with a small SB, a deal where they can get out of it easy.

My understanding is that Cooper is still recovering from injury. So I wouldn't pencil him in as a starter yet. I think Magnuson and Garnett have a shot at it too. Having said that, I think Cooper (if he's fully healthy) gets the starting position with Magnuson and Garnett being the backups.

You're right, I could also see Mike Person starting if Cooper isn't ready, as he had his best yr in 2015 in ATL with Kyle as OC. But if healthy Cooper is the RG.

I imagine the OL will look like this, barring injuries, Staley-Tomlinson-Richburg-Cooper-McGlincey, with Person, Magnuson, Gilliam, and Garnett as the 4 backups, with Gilliam, and either Person or Magnuson active, as they need a backup T and C/G.

I'm just providing stats that show improvements in his game over the course of the season...it actually is a fact. Does play call and qb play help? without question. To say that's the only reason would be silly. He's a 1st rd pick, so yeah there is some talent there.

It's not like they paid him some extraordinary contract anyway...they don't have much as far as LT money goes invested in the guard position and if you look at Kyle's past OLs, you need solid play not all-pros at guard. You need chris chester type of guys (who was his starting guard in Washington and ATL). Can Tomlinson be at least that? I think so

Hahaha this! You can't invest all-pro money at every position...or top 10 picks.

Shanahan was rocking top end offense with chris Chester as his starting OG (for years).

Question...you're the cap guy so I trust you. I'm looking at Cooper's contract on OTC and it says he's only got $2 million in dead money if cut? So he doesn't have $4.8 million in GTD money? Then if you're looking At Garnett's money (dead cash) it would actually cost SF more to cut josh vs Cooper.

Also with this extension for Tomlinson does this get added onto his 1 yr deal or no?

Thanks

Any of you getting mad about this deal, clearly don't trust Lycnh and Shanny. I'm loving the fact they reward their own guys. The real battle this summer is at RG.

Cooper's deal has $4m GTD, $2M base, $2M signing bonus, not sure why OTC doesn't have the correct numbers.

Should be 3 additional years, through 2021
