Poll: Like or Dislike Players Protesting During the National Anthem?

How many of you stand when the anthem is being played on the tv when you are at home? I know I dont

I do, every time. I honor my childhood friend, Christopher Merville who was killed by an IED when we were 26.

This protest has value and for the most part I agree with it. But, I will never agree with it being held at a moment that honors those that gave up everything for us to have those rights.

I like it because it's statistically impossible to legitimately argue that it's not a valid cause, because I think that peaceful and non-violent and non-threatening protest is never a bad thing, and because I respect anyone who is willing to risk things for what they believe in.

Even more than I like it though, I am vehemently opposed to the rationales of people who don't like it.

You don't want politics invading your sports? Fine. They're not. It's all happening before the game even starts, and during a "tradition" that isn't even a tradition in the NFL. Players weren't even out on the field for the anthem until 2009. If you don't like it do what everyone else does and just tune in for kickoff time. Heck, I just tune in for kickoff time like I always have.

You think it's unAmerican? Protest and the public political redress of government is LITERALLY what this country was founded on. The "what and who are real Americans" wars could not be more shallow and boring, but if you think the peaceful and public protest of the state is unAmerican I'm sorry, but you're simply an idiot. Historically you'd be hard pressed to come up with a single thing that is more American. /en

You think it disrespects "the troops"? That's a deliberate misunderstanding of what is being protested, and those protesting have wasted the time to make that clear to you hundreds of times over. Quite frankly, even if it WAS a protest of the military (which it decidedly isn't -- players kneel on the advice of a military man) I'd be perfectly fine with that also. That the U.S. military is a sacred cow is one of the greatest boondoggles of our time. The U.S. military has become the most destructive, least efficient, least productive, and most expensive public low-skill jobs program in recorded human history. My father died in war for this country, and unless you have an immediate family member who has done the same, you can seriously F off with your moral high ground or high falutin talk about the sacredness of the military.

You think players shouldn't protest because they should be grateful that they make a lot of money? What? This is a ridiculous claim. I'm happy to go into the details about how intellectually mealy mouthed this claim is if anyone actually wants to take it seriously, but it's a logical mess and doesn't hold up to an ounce of scrutiny.

/end rant

My sentiments as well
Trump is the cause of this! Why do people look beyond that and belittle the players?

The guy called out the NFL and the NFL is responding.

Only a handful of players took a knee prior to his comments. Last Sunday over 200 players, coaches and owners took part in the protest.

If you want to be upset at someone be upset with Trump!!

He continues to lash out on twitter nearly a week later and add fuel to the fire. How is that helping?
What I don't understand is what is going to be accomplished? Are social injustices goisng to go away automatically? Are people going to just stop being racist? What is the point of all this?

Martin Luther king had reason and purpose. This is just f**king stupid. Oh and tell me another country where there no social injustices. It's everywhere. It's human nature. It's not a United States thing.

They should just take whatever white people gives them.

They were given everything by whites and are ungrateful

I must have missed the time when protestors claimed that if they kneel that injustices will go away automatically. Maybe they said that the same time that they were claiming that the US is the only country with injustices.

Got a link?

Easy to call things and people stupid when rather than engaging with them you just make up things and goals about them that don't have a lick of truth.

What are the goals? Someone tell me please. This all started with police brutality. Now I don't even know what it's about. What are the goals and what is the end result?

Absolutely LOVE it.
It's not even a protest anymore, but an individual spotlight

It's really not a protest but another spotlight opportunity.
No I dislike it.

The players say it isn't about our military and isn't disrespecting the flag.

Many of the people against this so called protest say it is about the military and disrespecting the flag.

IMO, w/all the college grads and smart people out there; they could come up w/something MUCH BETTER to get their point across.

It isn't about the flag , anthem , or military.

It is just a vehicle.

You think Rosa Parks was about bus service?

You think cafeteria sit ins are about the food?

You think the sit ins at dept stores in the 60s were about the clothes?

I like it, but for reasons no one has discussed. The National Anthem as a "tradition before a game start" was brought about during WW1, when people were having a hard time attending baseball games while their kids were being murdered in European Trenches.

The reason the Anthem was put in place had nothing to do with patriotism and support for patriotism's sake. It was to play on patriotism in order to secure ticket sales so Baseball wouldn't go belly up. You see, the owner that introduced this thought if he could play on the patriotism of US citizens, they would purchase a ticket as a sign of support for US troops.

Soooo, every time the Anthem is played during a sporting event... I'm offended... because it was a cash grab move trivializing the meaning of the Anthem and the sacrifice of US lives in war.
Yet this same nfl doesnt want Kap on their team lol
