The thing is we don't need a tackle, we need guards. Top 5 is too high for a guard, that's why I think we'll probably trade down and take one in the 12-15 range.

If a tackle like McGlinchey is seen as good enough, then they very well could be a viable option. Its not like Staley has a lot of time left.

This...and he is able to play G in the meantime until Staley moves on

How about moving Staley to guard? It will probably extend his career.

RT would be the logical choice.

And move Brown to LT?

Yup!
In the 2 games that he played, the offense can actually pass block and guys got open.

Niners right now, not so much
If he doesnt wear #10 right away, i'd hold off on that jersey purchase until next season

Guys have been getting open for the 49ers. Its just that either the QB is holding on to the football too long or they've just had their face mashed into the turf because the DL pretty much beats the OL right off the snap.
Wow, I didn't see this coming. What a great move, as it will open up next years draft choice to fill another need, or to trade for multiple picks. I wonder how Jimmg fee;s right now. He has to be excited by the opportunity to build this team and work with an offensive minded HC. Nothing wrong with this move AT ALL.

I've brought it up in the Mods forum and with Webbie, we'll see what can be done. I don't get a Samsung ad, I keep getting a Banner Health ad instead that follows me around all over the forum, its making me paranoid man.
Why would anyone want this guy to play this year.

Or they repeatedly throw the ball behind the receiver.
Maybe you guys should just buy the Samsung and you won't have this problem.

Just curious but is anyone buying the narrative in the sports talk media that Bill was doing KS and his dad Mike a solid because they are friends by giving us Garoppolo?
Pats fans have somewhat calmed down, but are now mad that BB and Kraft didnt take Cleveland's two 1st rd picks earlier before the season. I do like that they think our D will be legit in a few seasons.

"If JG never was viewed by BB as Brady's potential successor, then the Patriots conducted themselves incoherently by not trading him for a bigger return last spring and entering contract talks with him over the spring and summer. I have no doubt they badly wanted to retain him as Brady's eventual successor and tried, as far as even considering franchising him according to multiple reports. There really is no other explanation for keeping such a valuable asset as long as they did under present circumstances. Otherwise, they would have traded him last spring and retained Brissett as backup."

"with stud qbs in this draft, why didn't SF just draft one with the 1st or 2nd overall pick and save their #2 pick? They must value Jimmy G much more obviously.."

"99% of rookies have no idea what their doing for a long while. Jimmy is light years ahead of anyone coming out. Something else I've been saying since this last draft is SF will have a nasty D very soon. Possibly the best in a year or 2. They have some legit studs on that team and the fans have no idea. Jacksonville should have been all over Jimmy."

Why wouldn't you? We're not going to fix the O-line anytime soon, so unless we plan on sitting him his entire career, we're going to have to start him in a less than ideal situation.

This. Beathard was late with almost every pass so it's hard to blame the receivers...though great receivers would have adjusted and at least caught the darn balls! It's not uncommon for a rookie QB to be hesitant so Beathard might still develop and I certainly feel so much better with JG/Beathard than I did with Hoyer/Beathard!

I don't think we should start him until Staley and Brown get back.
