He should wear 13 as a tribute to Tim Rattay, another player who looked good after his first 2 starts.

God damnit! I want to know what number he is going to choose. I know many of us expect 10 but I want to know now!
10 is already being used

Would be pretty hilarious if he picked 12

I wish he could but it is retired.

I don't think an UDFA won't mind giving his number up to the teams FQB.

Just cut Bourne. Problem solved.

And activate Bolden Jr. for all punt and kickoff returns.

This is a decent move for us. But the timing is a little seat of the pants.

I hope they hold him out until staley comes back against a soft team so he doesnt get killed right away.

The pats letting him go means they dont see him as the long term solution.

That's not necessarily true. Reports have been that the Pats waited because they wanted to try to resign JG, even if they had to pay starter's money. Obviously, that would kill their salary cap, but they were considering it. JG made it clear he did not want to come back as a back-up and BB was not ready to move on from Brady just yet considering Brady is much healthier than Montana when the Niners moved on to Steve Young.

Now, the Pats could have Franchise tagged JG to keep him around longer, but that would have been an even bigger hit to the salary cap next year and would have left them vulnerable to losing out on other players. I think this trade was more desperation on the Pats side to make sure they got something before he walked.

They also waited because the starter up till now, could have gotten injured with a career ending event.....

Just curious but is anyone buying the narrative in the sports talk media that Bill was doing KS and his dad Mike a solid because they are friends by giving us Garoppolo?

Can't see BB doing anyone any favors. That guy is ruthless and all about business. Think he realized that Brady is good to go for another 2 to 3 years and couldn't work out a deal with JG to keep him around that long. Got what he could get. He should of traded him this off-season and could of gotten twice as much but I think he wanted to wait and see if Brady would regress.
BB does owe his career to BW
Who is BW?

like the move but as doc says. it means nothing if they do not address the line issues. i assume they are working on that this week not to mention the rest of the year

Very true. Just one piece...a huge piece but they still have a lot of other holes to fill but will not have to waste their #1 on a QB.
Good job by Lynch going after the QB Shanahan wants, like to see the FO working to acquire the talent the coaches want for once. Hopefully it all pans out.

Side note: Cleveland had the opportunity to acquire Cousins for a third a few years ago, would only offer a 4th.

What a Mickey Mouse operation the Browns got going over there.

Just finished a couple hour reveiw of the Jimmy G thread and here are a couple observations , some made already.

Was surprised we signed a QB when we needed and OG and C.

That aside, Cuzins was good enough to run the team but i sure didn't see him leading this team to a SB. And the price tag for the quality was just not a good deal $25-30 mil per ...and which he will get. Fortunately we won't be the ones paying him. At best a good Qb but not FR Qb. My opinion only.

This obviates the need that we take Darnold, Rosen or Josh Allen (WYO), now that i have seen them all.... nobody i see there as potential FR QB....despite the early season adulation piled on these guys. And Darnold...stay in college another yr son.

So with no cuzins, none of the top 3 Qbs, Jimmy G seems like a very good ....nope make that best choice. Truly i hope he isn't fragile, which i got from his getting injure shortly after Brady did and hence he didn't help out much once brady went down. PATS could have scored a 1 plus change earlier in season. But now that Brady has shown he can play into his late 60s, i guess Jimmy Gs time was up. They couldn't afford to pay two QBs for starters salaries. Also he is a good deal relatively, hopefully in the $20 mil per yr mold. With no real experiecnce in games that has to limit his top salary. So a good deal there too.

Next is sitting like A Rodgers did for 4 yrs behind Favre. Jimmy G did the same behind Brady. So hopefully he was learning as he watched. How could he help but not do that. Gotta like this too. So JG is ready to go vs any of the less than desirable top qBs this yr in draft. Big advantage 49ers. Downside: if bellichek gets rid of them...they may not be very good. Gotta remember this one.

The killer tho...Jimmy G coming here does not make our non existent OL one lick better. So i am uneasy putting a potential FR QB behind that horrible, ugly, nasty, invisible OL. He could get injured easily on any play....because we always have DLs gettign free shots at our qBs.

Another positive is that JG is a WCO, and is a perfect fit for shanny. Now he just has to decide which DLs he uses to help protect him on O. And that better be done or JG will be out for season if he has nobody to block for him.

CJ: Well with no OL, he proved he cannot function, which is no surprise. I am going to be very impressed if JG can pull that off.

And final observation....with potential FR QB taken care of , now F.O can focus on OG, C , OG. And they all need to be all pro starters. So FA. Then we can focus on #1 WR, CBs, S, ILB, OLB, (PLUS DEPTH EVERYWHERE), DL, additional RB. So this hire takes blowing a bundle on guys who are not FR QB talent out of the equation. I give high marks for this trade, and just before the bell, too. The bell is probably why it happened. NOw lynch and Shan need to work on their rather poor skills of picking OL talent. Hooray for the 9ers. Oh and CJ...gets a couple yrs to see if he can be the FR Qb 2-3 yrs out.

Cousins was going to cost way to much. Forget the picks, we would probably would have had to made him the highest paid QB in the league and pretty much suck up all our cap space. With Jimmy G, yes he will get paid but we will still have money to sign some much needed guys at WR, O-Line, pass rush, etc, etc.

Great move. I am excited

Just want to re-emphasize the carelessness of shanny in playing his potential FR QB , CJ, and allowing the large likelihood of serious injury due to our non existent OL. And same, or even more applies to JG. I don't care where TF they get OLs, but starting on our DL, AA, Buck, Solly....are all candidates. Even DJ or Mitchell. Don't care what happens on DL now. Gotta protect JG (and CJ) or we are going to end their careers early because of no protection behind our invisible OL. So any guy who shows up here for OL audtition... fine by me. But for heaven's sakes, get anybody BUT Fusco, kilgore and beadles. By rights they should not be on this team..

Meh, every team is going to look bad if you look at the players they've missed out on that they could have had. We missed out on Watson, a better QB than JG. It's the accumulation of repeated bad mistakes that makes a franchise bad, not one in isolation.

I feel like the Browns are just plain allergic to finding a QB...

But then again, knowing their luck, if they traded for Cousins he would magically suck for them.
Another good analysis of the trade.
