On paper, this team really resembles offensively, I think, the '94 Niners. Unfortuantely this year's defensive side (on paper)doesn't have a Ricky Jackson or Richard Dent. Dont underestimate our defense, we got great players on all levels, colbert at safety, spoon/sherm duo at CB, Froster/warner foster providing the banging while warner can cover the TEs, DLine with Defo/thomas. I dont think its outside the realm the defense reaches top ten in total defensive stats by the time were in the playoffs.

I'm hoping you are right, but we got Goff and Midget in our division. If we can't generate a pass rush, that's 4 tough games where Jimmy is exposed to getting hit because he has to pass. I'm not too worried about the Josh Rosens and Sam Bradfords of the NFL, but Aaron and Breese are the ones I'm concerend about. These guys - without a pass rush - can run the option route offense all day on a defense, and no matter what coverage you employ, they will move the ball on you.

I see Jimmy G maybe taking a step back this season. He played a lot of improv football last season and he may have problems processing some of the more complex Shanny plays. He could suffer from information overload and eventually turn out to be another Mark Sanchez.

It is true we don't have the D of the '94 9ers. But...if we happen to get the ball and keep it, oh, say 38 mins/game, no matter what our D actually is, it will look shid hot with a TOP differential like that. We keep the opponents O on the bench for 38+ mins/game, it makes our D look a whole lot better than it actually is. Remember, with 5 measly games at end of yr, no Garcon, and no outstanding receivers, no interior OL,(. And i mean NONE), Jimmy averaged over 300 yds /game. And 2 of those games were with playoff teams who really needed that win. We beat 'em both. So if JG can average over 300 yrds with nobody of note on the field, what is he going to do with JET, our new guy, plus the nobody's who showed up big last yr.? Like the wag who asked the question...".what , you want another WR so Jimmy can throw 350-375 yds /game instead of 300? "

Well, yeah. I guess so. And he does that and TOP is going to be in the 38+ mins/game .That makes the D sure look a lot better. Plus no matter what, we KNOW our D backfield is going to go from "what Paddy shot at" to something very impressive. At least i sure hope so. We drafted, FAed enough DBs to make that into a hot shot backfield. We had 2 definite starters, but now, i have a hard time believing we don't have 4 bona fide starters at DB, and have some very good backups. Warner in the front 7 will not hurt either.

Then you pair up JG with Kyle's playcalling and it is not all that hard to imagine an Offense that gets on the field and just stays there. Kyle's new WR is starting to conjure up an O that just loves to stay on the field. And with the JET, mmmm....So even tho kyle didn't get Cuzins, who he really wanted all along, he will just have to do with JimmyG. I guess kyle can get used to that. As for Jimmy, he got a better D backfield, another starting LB(who is a stud in coverage), he got his professional Center, a brand new agile RT , a new and better RB, and hopefully 2 of the OGs have matured into starters. Plus he has the "nobody's " he threw to last yr. Man what's not to like?

Good post, doc, I agree.

Amazing how "nobodies" become suddenly good to great professionals under proper coaching and game planning. I am hopeful that phenomenon works as well with the passrush as it appears to have worked with the receiving corps. Fun to watch this rebuild as it develops.
