During the midst of the 9 game losing streak there was all this smack being talked about how bad a job Shanahan and Lynch were doing, but to anyone who was paying attention it was clear that the schemes were working, they just lacked the right triggerman to execute them. Ramsey's comments fall into the same category. 'Well, he was kicking our ass, but it was just the scheme, not him". The WCO is just a scheme, one that the league has been running for years, but not every QB executes it as well as Joe did.

Scheme only gets you as far as the players ability to execute the scheme. The 49ers were running the same scheme with Hoyer and Beathard, yet the results were so vastly different.
People like to use the "system QB" moniker as a putdown but all that tells me is you have a guy who can execute at a ridiculous level in a given offense. If it was all just the system, Steve Bono and Ryan Mallet would have been All Pro level QB's.

Jimmies leadership and composure was huge in that game. He had a good game too.
Let's not forget how God awful we looked before Jimmy. We were literally talking about going 1-15 and hoping for the #1 pick.

You might as well call him Jimmy Wick, because he will find your weakness and exploit it. https://t.co/HdQUW24fC6

Why would Jalen Ramsey be super impressed with Garoppolo? He only threw for 240ish yards in that game. He played well, but the Jags lost that game due to their defense being asleep for the first quarter and Blake Bortles throwing 3 dumb picks.
I know right? His defense only gave up 44 points to Jimmy G.
We also had two very short TD drives, featuring possessions that started at:
- the Jacksonville 26-yard line (5-play, 26-yard TD drive), and,
- the 18-yard line (3-play, 18-yard TD drive)
Context matters. Garoppolo played well, but let's not go crazy here.
Says context matters...tries to break things down to take away from what Jimmy was able to do.
Turnovers are a part of the game.
Scoring 38 points on what WAS the #1 defense in the league at the time. How many opening TD drives they allow heading into that game?
He also played with a much less talented squad then say Ben Roethlisberger who was the only other QB who led a team who put up 40+ on the Jags that year.
How well do you think Jimmy would've done with the Steelers OL, Antonio Brown and all those receivers and Bell at RB?
As you said context matters...I totally expected Jimmy to look awful in that game due to us being so outmatched.
I also like how he emphasized the DJ pick-6. Let's not act like DJ actually worked hard for that one.
Want to talk about context the guy was only on the team 7 weeks no preseason, no training camp, no OTAs, and only a limited amount of the playbook and still beat them. Also if you want to go after scheme part and wait till they have tape next year Shanny will have a whole offseason of new scheme on him that there wont be tape for.

Oh man defenses are gonna study up on Jimmy they will probably play everyone short cuz they now know jimmy can't throw it deep.

There were about 4 throws in that Jags game that any QB could have made where the target was schemed open. I'm referring to the slide/bootleg plays where misdirection earned Jimmy a wide open target that was clearly the primary receiver on that play. Everything else required either a pinpoint throw versus man, or a coverage read versus zone.

Sounds good to me...dude lead the league in ypa. He's not incapable of throwing the ball downfield.

Agreed. Jalen was just pisses cause Jimmy placed a perfect ball to Goodwin when he was in man coverage while under pressure 18 yards downfield.

Only to folks with an illegitimate understanding of Garoppolo.
Garoppplo has shown that he's plenty capable of throwing a good deep ball at EIU and with the Patriots. Enough that there is zero question that he can be at least consistently average when throwing deep, enough for defenses to have to respect his ability to beat them down the field.
He's not going to bomb away like a Joe Flacco but then again he's also better at basically every other aspect of quarterbacking than Flacco.
If its 2020 and people are talking about Garoppolo's deep ball as a major drawback, then that will be cause for concern. In the meantime I expect every facet of his game to improve as he develops chemistry with his receivers and further comfort with the offense.
