Jimmy is elite, but he did throw a wobbler on day 2 of OTAs so I guess he sucks

I see people saying this and I've had fans of other teams on another board claim people are overboard calling Jimmy elite and my question to him and you....
who is doing that?
There may be a few people on here who threw that out there in jest but has anyone who was actually being serious claimed Garoppolo is already up there with the top QBs in the league or is elite?
Keep in mind there is a difference in saying he shows elite QB traits and saying the guy is actually elite.
My favorite is when people throw out the "Teams will have some film on him" and when I respond with "I guess defenses are still waiting on more film from guys like Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers?" Their rebuttal is always "Oh so now Garoppolo is as good as those guys?"
No, he's not. However he shows excellent traits and has a lot of potential and COULD get to that level. The point is defenses getting more film on a QB doesn't mean that QB is suddenly going to turn into an ugly duckling after looking like a swan before.
Garoppolo still has to go out there and prove he can play at a high level consistently over the whole season+. We haven't seen him in the playoffs and we haven't seen him even start half a season, let alone a full season. He's shown great things and the arrow is pointed in the right direction with him but yes he has to prove it time and time again.
Hopefully he does just that.
You nailed it genus!
Greatness comes by proving it over time and comes with highs & lows and tough tests.
I recall when Montana was getting creamed by the Eagles - hit after hit and he kept fighting back.
We were losing and even after he was battered he bought the team back and we won!
That, IMO, is what greatness is all about.
Facing adversity and fighting back every step of the way.
Like most here, I'm a JG believer and his tests will come and in the future I believe he'll be considered great.
Until then, let's sit back and enjoy the ride.

Well, I hope he can beat Ben's rookie QB record.

I think you're correct. That would mean we would have to go 9-0 under Jimmy for that to happen. 49ers fans would be unbearable if that happened.

Records are made to be broken! Having said that, I think it was one of our resident football experts (NY85?) who said that Pittsburg had the number 1 defense that year. That helped Ben go 15-0 (or something like that) his rookie year. Now Jimmy went 2-0 at New England (arguably one of the best teams when Jimmy was there), and 5-0 with a crap offense and crap defense last year. Jimmy has a shot at breaking Ben's record this year, and while it's not a *great* probability - it's not an impossibility. If we have a pass rush, it's a done deal, in my opinion.

Kaepernick's problem was that he never increased his speed in reading a defense to the outside and struggled throwing with anticipation outside the numbers and looking off defenders underneath. Defense's starting trying to take away the intermediate and deep middle. He struggled getting the ball out on time for RAC underneath a lot or look off defenders on 3rd down underneath. It allowed defenders to close on the receiver faster.
JG's biggest strengths are his ability to work his progression quickly and look off defenders. So, it's not as easy to take away what he does really well. What they'll look to do is only give him the throws they think he'll struggle with but as that happens we'll see if he can truly make all the throws all the time. If he can, look out.

How to defend Jimmy G, interesting topic. I think a defense has to play good man coverage while applying pressure with 4. One deep safety with one underneath trying to rob what they think is Jimmy' first read - make him hold the ball just a tad longer. Not exactly a secret formula, and it relies on having talented defenders. I don't think blitzing him is the answer because it reduces what can be done on the backend. Jimmy has admitted that he likes it when defenses blitz because it makes his reads easier. Unless a defense can get great pressure with 4 rushers, I don't think playing zone is the answer because of what you said above about he can look off defenders, but also because Kyle's play designs to bust zone are too good.
With how Kyle has gone out and targeted pass catchers with high end agility (Jet, Pettis, Goodwin, Kittle, Juice) I feel as though that backs up what I said above - play man coverage to beat this 49er offense. Kyle knows this and wants players that can beat man coverage. Kyle can bust zone coverage with his playbook coupled with a QB that can do the things Jimmy has shown to do.

THIS!!!!
I try to convey this to my fellow Zoners every year! Watch the games. Enjoy them if they are enjoyable. If not, have hope for your team. But, above all, believe that during the season and as long as the Niners are in contention, that they have a chance to win it all! And win one for the...sorry, can't do it.

If you watch Jimmy you'll see that he trusts his arm quite a bit. And he has reason to. He's had time to develop his timing on throws and seems to have a really good handle on what he can and cannot do. The interceptions I've seen weren't of the "trying to fit it into a tight window" variety. They seemed to be some type of just an errant throw or something else (they've been really ugly). I look at the Jags game and see how time and time again he beat the unbelieving loudmouth DB who seemed to be just a c-hair away from an int. I can't wait to see him over this 16 week season and hopefully into the playoffs.

The JJJ klan(Jimmy's Jet Juice) will impose their will and destroy the opposition this year!

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo struggled with hitting the crossing route on a few occasions in 2017. The video below shows a few examples where Garoppolo misses the deep crossing route. He is late to the throwing window, and does not have the timing down yet.
With an offseason to work on this concept, I am sure Garoppolo will be able to hit the deep crossing route in 2018.
