You obviously haven't read up on how & why the trade happened. They very much wanted him to be part of their long term plans. They even offered him starter money to stay, they had to trade him because he wanted to start and is a free agent next year. The trade was the only way they could get something in return for him, otherwise they were stuck with the prospect of losing him for whatever comp pick it would get them.

I wish he was ready today and have him start on Sunday, but that's not reality. He needs to learn at least enough to function on the field.

Totally get a period of learning. But he HAS to see action before seasons end. I don't know when, ideally after our bye. But practice only reveals so much. Need to see how he is under adversity.

The high second round pick means he at minimum is getting the tag- only difference of him playing this year or not is us being comfortable locking him into a longterm FQB contract and what his worth actually is (top 10, top 15, top 20)

And honestly, we could tag him 2 years in a row if we needed (even transition tag and get compensation) to while also developing BeatHard in the background (or another). Like Kyle said, they invested a 2nd to secure him and they didn't do that NOT to sign him long term. They really believe he is the guy.

Why next year? Why not wait till the 49ers are a playoff team again. So keep him on the bench till what... 2020? I mean QBs only work when they have perfect conditions, so no reason to throw him out there before.

I could be wrong, but I like what I've seen so far and I think he has a bigger upside than Cousins (never liked Cousins in the first place).

Besides, is only a 2nd round pick. So, even if things don't work out from now until the next draft, we could still take a top QB in the draft.

We have nothing to lose here. Is like we get to test-drive the new Lamborghini first and we don't have to go on the waitlist.

When you are 0-8, you have to make aggressive moves.
