That's going to come in handy in the passing game. Speaking of coming in handy, just did it watching Jimmy G's introductory presser.

The OL wasn't really even a problem this year until Brown AND Staley were out. Obviously if you lose 2 upper tier T, and then your backup T goes on IR, and you have to play a total crap G like Zane Beadles at LT, and a rookie G Eric Magnuson at RT, you're going to have problems.

Brown will likely be back this week, or next week, and Staley will be back after the bye. Fusco has actually been solid, which leaves Kilgore and Tomlinson playing mediocre, but passable. The OL will be back to decent by the Seattle game when Garoppolo starts.

IMO our weak spots are better addressed in free agency. We have Tackles, and I hate drafting G or C. They're always crapshoots. Sign a top free agent G or C, and the line will be in good shape.

We watching the same games??

The pass blocking hadnt been bad before the injuries. It was QB play and dropped passes. Both Staley and Brown were having solid seasons on the edges.
Beadles was Benched for being a preverbal turnstile, our C Kilgore is constantly getting tossed around like a rag doll and can't seem to make the right reads and our Guards Laken and Fusco are ranked in the bottom 1/4 of the league in both run and pass blocking though Laken has shown a little potential. The only thing that was holding this line together this year were our OT's but lately Staley's been getting beat at least once a game on outside rushes and Brown has been struggling to pick up the blitz. This online started bad this season and has simply been getting worse not better.

Alternatively, they might suck it up and pay him top-5 money next year with the franchise tag to evaluate him over a full year. I am hopeful, but you just can't judge a guy on a handful of games. Look at Kaepernick. Looked awesome at first, traded Smith, gave him a big contract, then he got exposed. I, for one, would like to see Garoppulo a decent chunk this year before the team decides how to use its high first round pick.

You can tell from his starts last year that hes ready, and hes very fundamentally sound. He's about as coached up as you can get. I dont think we'll be disappointed. He just needs to cram this new offense.

Not sure what games you were watching but I saw a lot of collapsing pass protection up the middle in most games this year. QB and WR play hasn't been stellar either but that interior line has been weak.

The interior play on the line has been bad all season. But yea, before the injuries to the tackles, this offense had its chances and could have won some games with better QB play.

Incorrect on Fusco. PFF ranks him as the 12th best run blocking G in football this year. Overall hes ranked 25th. Not bad at all. We really just have 2 weak spots in the middle, but thats the norm in the NFL today. Were lucky to have 2 good T. Our OL, when healthy, is actually a solid group.

Yeah that was more of a punishment lol. He liked Jimmy.

I hear you, however, the Kaepernick comparison does not quite work as JG has shown he is a much more pro-ready QB than was Kaepernick.

The next couple of weeks will be interesting. The FO will want to get as much of a read on him as possible before committing to a deal. However, the longer they wait, assuming he performs as everyone hopes, the higher the price will be (not that we can't afford it).

If I'm Don Yee, one of the questions I will ask is, "What are you going to do with the OL in order to protect my client from injury?" I would even ask for assurance of spending draft capital on OL.

Now that we have "our guy," fixing the OL is the next most important move to make. It isn't sexy but drafting a "big ugly" next spring will pay dividends in the future. Let's not forget how Iupati and Davis allowed us to fit Adam Snyder into the line. Put a couple of top-level players on the line and you can fit lesser players in.

Using PFF evaluations for OL is a bad idea. Easily their worst evaluations are on the OL. When a defender comes through untouched due to a missed block they don't penalize the offending lineman...that's pretty damn awful. I understand they can't make the call on who actually had the block based on scheme watching it but it's still a glaring omission.

Waiting until Staley and Brown are both back in 3 weeks is what they're going to do to protect Garoppolo.

What's up with his hands ?

he has small hands. did you know that?

Considering that one of the front runners for MVP this year is also known for having small hands, this doesn't concern me.

45 completion % last game. slowly dwindling away.
