Belichick does not lose on trades.
Chandler Jones has been killing it for the Cards and is one of the best young edge rushers in football. Jamie Collins had played well for the Browns and Jacoby Brisett overall has done a decent job of stepping as QB for Indy.
Meanwhile what happened with Kony Ealy? Dwayne Allen has been garbage in NE despite being paid a ton. You need to download the new update for your talking points.
Ascribing some mystical qualities to Belichick is silly. The reality is that the Patriots tried to extend Garoppolo but were unable to give him the starting job that he covets so they had to get back something or lose him for nothing potentially.
Why didn't they get more back? Because no one was offering more for an 8 game audition of a QB with a couple NFL starts. No conspiracy, nothing sinister about it.
I'm going to let you in on a little secret: Belichick traded those two because they were freelancing. The Patriots' defense improved after both of them were moved. Belichick doesn't care about anything other than the fact that players follow his instructions, because they're always correct and they will always result in success. Football players are nothing more than mercenaries to Belichick.
Bringing in players is different from exporting them. Belichick brings in guys he thinks might grasp his schemes well. When he guesses wrong, it's not big deal. They're history.
If Belichick thought Jimmy G was the guy to take over for Tom Brady after he retires, he would just have him signed long-term. The Patriots have a team of interchangeable scrubs outside the QB position, so they have plenty of cap space.
Again, you'd better hope that Belichick is doing this because he likes the guy and wants him to get what he deserves somewhere else.
