But these are also throws that could easily go in the negative direction. For the most part, the WTF reads have gone in his favor, but this preseason has exposed some of his questionable reads.

If he had good receivers he could trust, the gunslinger mentality would work out more often than not

You mean like throwing deep to Kittle who is being tripled team when there was obvious man coverage on the other side?

Jimmy went without a game for a year. He's gonna go wild, tear up the first couple of pussies. Then he will calm down and f**k her like she's a woman by candlelight.

Correction, I meant throwing deep to Pettis who was tripled.

Yes, he went a year without playing a game, but that has zero to do with presnap reads.

He needs more in-game experience. He should improve over time.

He took a chance throwing to Pettis. Let him go up and get it. He didn't think the safeties converged so quickly. On a deep throw, that will happened. Not so much about presnap read. More like Jimmy taking a chance on a lower percentage, deep throw, big play.

Kinda like Shanny going for it on 4th down after 3rd&2. Would he have done that early in the game if it was a real game, not a preseason game...

Jimmy made the throw more because it's a preseason game.

Taking a chance is purposely underthrowing it so the WR has a jump ball one-on-one. Throwing into triple coverage when there's man on the other side is not smart. He should have "taken a chance" with Matthews on the other side.

ok, so what is it... is jimmy going wild with 4000 yards and comeback player of the year. or as many said last week.. well it may take him a year to get back into a groove following his knee surgery

He wasn't injured at the end of the year. He's had a lot of time to get 100%. I can excuse his accuracy because he doesn't have confidence in fully engaging his legs on the throw. But bad presnap reads is not acceptable.

I'm sure when he saw Pettis, it was most likely singled. But by the time the ball get there, the safeties fast enough to converged. He took a chance on the throw in a preseason game.

Maybe, but how does that explain the 3rd defender there? It was a sideline throw which means he was already doubled prior to the FS moving over.

well when he struggled vs denver. all of a sudden you had lots of people backtracking saying. well it will take a while for him to get back. now since his good effort saturday. jimmy tearing up s**t, 4000 yards etc is back in play. i just find it interesting. i love jimmy but agree with you. he is not the perfect qb some make him out to be. and yes. the line is the whole key to things not to mention kyle calling a good game like he did vs kansas city and unlike what he did vs denver

Sounds like you misinterpreted my post. Jimmy going wild taking chances in his first couple of preseason games. He will make better decisions within the offense later

lol qnn with that analogy. Jimmy was doing it with no protection at first in that DEN game. Who would have thought it's better with protection.

Obviously better protection = better QB play. But even with trash protection in Denver -- Jimmy needs to be better. He needs to be a top 10 QB in this league given his financial comp AND unlikelihood that this team does anything of significance if he's not. So, I think we need to judge him as such.

His decision making (or lack thereof, in some instances) is apparent when he's refusing to throw a ball away or not just taking the sack.

Not to say that you were doing this -- but too many just toss aside Garoppolo's awful performance in Denver because of some throw away, unnuanced "preseason!" or "o-line!" takes. I hope it's just "rust". I suppose we will find out in a couple weeks.

I was just expanding on qnn's analogy when I mentioned protection. Protection = condom. "Who would have thought it's better with protection."
Of course it's better without protection.

sorry. i did not know you meant pre season pussies, i thought you meant when the bullets start to fly for real pussies. i agree with you that he will get better . he is coming off major surgery and i do not think its realistic to think he will be elite this year. hell even before the injury we did not know what we had. a small sample two years ago. even smaller last year and honestly in my opinion. he did not look that great last year in his few games.

Still a work in progress. Very little game experience.

...and when Jimmy throws a couple of interceptions in a game, here we go again on the roller coaster. It's predictable, and you shouldn't worry about it. It's an emotional game for all the fans. I think he has a good shot at 4000 yards specially with Kittle and the rest of the gang, and Kyle calling the plays. With Richburg back and (Hopefully) 100% - that interior line is going to be stabilized and all the protection calls will be on point, vs letting a free rusher hit Jimmy because of a wrong protection call.

He's going to have to put some concentrated learning in this year to make up for last year. He can do it. He just has to run out of bounds more this year than last year.
