It was also a gutsy move by them to even draft a QB when Alex was playing well for them and getting them to the playoffs every year, but they decided that they weren't going to settle for being mediocre and moved up for a QB that 10 other teams inexplicably passed on. Good for them, but because of where they were in the draft, a lot of things had to go their way for that to even be possible. If any of the teams ahead of them had fallen in love with Mahomes, then that team is probably the dynasty in the making instead of the Chiefs.

Mahomes is the GOAT already?

I wont go that far, but he is certainly on GOAT trajectory.
Advanced metrics have shown that Mahomes is having a meh season in terms of EPA, benefiting from the weapons and playcalling at his disposal.

It's either him or Mullens, but I'll give him the edge since he's won a Super Bowl MVP.

See this is where you're missing the point....

KC had a great team before Mahomes stepped on the field. They had a great scouting department, great FO, great coaching staff etc...Mahomes didn't even have to step on the field for a whole yr. Mahomes himself said he learned a ton from Alex and wasn't ready to be a NFL QB. Mahomes was GIVEN an amazing opportunity...you think he'd be the same guy if he was forced to play day 1 for say the Jets with their roster and Adam Gase? No f**king way.

In fact go look at all the s**t teams that have been drafting a QB early...they did want you said and sucked for yrs just to get their one shot to land a "FQB" problem is their teams were awful and so was the organization. More often then not it didn't/hasn't worked out and it's not just about the QB not being who they thought he was...its was the roster and coaching staff being as BAD as they were and hoping the QB would magically fix it.

SO yes, I would rather have a good team with a good QB win a bunch of games for 4 to 5 yrs THEN throw all my chips on a QB with massive upside that I don't need to play for a yr because I have a QB like Alex Smith.

Mahomes is ranked #1 out of all QBs in EPA in 2020. But yeah meh season, amirite?

LOL well how about old Joe Flacco? dude had one of the best playoff stretches ever...Eli Manning is another one. Let's top pretending like Nick Foles is some good QB Players can have a great moment in their career then go back to being avg the rest of their time in the NFL.

Can you imagine Jimmy in Tomsula's three yards and a cloud of dust scheme or Chip Kelly's 2 play offensive playbook? Comical. You think he has happy feet now?

Can you imagine any QB doing well in those scenarios? Can you imagine Mahomes starting day 1 with the Jets roster and Adam Gase calling plays? I highly doubt people would be throwing the term "goat" out there in this thread lol.

I saw a stat during their game Monday night. Mahomes in September:

32 TDs
0 INTs

Undefeated

That is pretty remarkable.

Very impressive but honestly the guy is surrounded by so much friggin talent it's hard to get a great read on him.

I mean I can't fault a guy for playing with the guys available to him but I would like to see him play without that stacked offensive roster to see just how great he is.

Tom Brady and Joe Montana had their impressive playmakers but they also won when they didn't have the greatest roster on offense around them.

Of course I'm sure KC isn't dumb and they'll do everything in their power to keep that great offense around him. Speed & his arm are a dangerous mix. But while his arm is super impressive I can't help but watch a ton of his throws be to wide open guys or Hill making insane catch.

I mean s**t...if the refs remembered that holding is against the rules he's not getting his Cinderella ending last season.
