Every team is looking for a "Mahomes type talent." Any QB with even a hint of superior physical ability is going way higher than they likely should. Josh Allen who struggled against the only good competition he ever faced in college went Top 5 solely on the basis of having a cannon arm and superior athleticism. With this upcoming draft class there's likely to be half a dozen teams picking in front of the 49ers with much bigger needs at quarterback.

QBs always get pushed up. I'll say no and win that bet.

Mahomes and Watson literally went at #10 and #12.

This is a QB strong draft.

A QB will be there between 8-18.

Not one you will want.
Put him on IR until he is 100%. There is no reason to play him right now as he is limiting the offense.

Start Beathard and bench him after the 1st quarter of each game.

Run the wide open offense with Mullens the rest of each game.

Profit

A QB will be there. And when all you're looking for is "a QB", that is how you draft a pretty terrible one.

Mahomes and Watson were both exceptions, because of the success they've had, teams are now willing to take a chance on virtually anyone so you're seeing guys like Daniel Jones and even Dwayne Haskins going far earlier than they may have in prior years.

But you're not drafting a faceless QB. You need someone that is THE QB. Otherwise you talk yourself into drafting a mediocre prospect just because you need one. Doing that you wind up with a Paxton Lynch, a Josh Rosen, a Dwayne Haskins, a Teddy Bridgewater or an EJ Manuel. QB's are not a commodity.

Thing is, everyone's idea of THE QB is gonna be different. That's how Trubisky goes at #2 while Mahomes and Watson go at #10 and #12. It's how Rosen goes #10 and Jackson goes #32.

Nobody knows anything. You target a guy for your system, and if he's there you grab him, then you pray you got it right. Took Reid 20 years.

Lawrence will be gone at 1, Fields will be gone at 2 and if Wilson keeps playing the way he has, he'll be going in the Top 5 as well. Who else you got?

Trade up a little. Snatch Fields

There's absolutely zero guarantee that a QB will be available for tradeup, especially when you look at all the teams with worse records than the 49ers that potentially need one, including the Jets(0-8), Jaguars(1-6), Patriots(2-5), Vikings(2-5) and Cowboys(2-5). Its likely that all those teams will be better positioned to draft one or move up for one.

I highly doubt the Cowboys are drafting a QB to replace Dak. He was playing at a high level before he went down. The Vikings are sort of tied to Cousins after that extension they signed him to after last season, so unless they find a trade partner or want to eat it they'll stick with him too. But you never know.

If we're in that 8-15 range and one of Wilson, Lance, etc. is still on the board we need to grab them. Hopefully Wilson will be there for us, or we move up a few spots to get him. Lawrence and Fields probably go 1-2 depending on how the draft order shakes out after the season is done.
27 million dollars to a guy who just hands the ball off on Jet Sweeps and throws screen passes behind the line of scrimmage. And y'all think its because of his ankle, and not because of his limitations as a QB?

I hope you guys are right, but I don't see it. They can rest this guy until Week 12 for all I care. I am tired of the excuses. Just purely from a cap stand point, I don't get what he brings to the table.

Jimmy was a quarter away from being a Superbowl Champion and the most likely Super Bowl MVP... But sure he doesn't give you a chance at this point.

He has fallen apart after our running game and defense became average. And he couldn't pass on a bad defense today. That's just the facts. Now whether or not he has a bum ankle or whatever excuses they can drum up with, that's another story. But as far as I'm concerned, they did say that he looked okay in practice this past week

Lawrence is going #1. So you can take him off.

Fields will go top 5 so you can also take him off.

Wilson is one of those "not one you will want" QBs.

Lance? Trask? They aren't high on my list, but who knows...

Why wouldn't the Cowboys go ahead and draft a Fields or Wilson if its going to save them over $25 million a year to do so? They are in a perfect position to walk away from Dak after his injury and free up a ton of cap space.

Meanwhile the Jets are pretty self explanatory. They'll fire Gase and the new HC will walk in the front door with the most highly regarded QB prospect since Andrew Luck in his back pocket.

Then you also have the Jaguars, WFC and the Patriots fighting over the QBs that are left after Lawrence.

Then the 49ers need to trade into the top 5 don't they

Some of these teams already have a qb though.

Will Jets move on? Broncos? Chargers? Giants? Texans? Cowboys? Eagles? Lions? That's 5-6 teams easily that may go elsewhere.
