Don't need a Mahomes. Wouldn't turn it down of course, but just someone who is somewhat consistent with ball placement and reliable reading the field would be a good start.
Jimmy sprays it too much and that's been the case from the start.

If we can get our Mahomes in the draft, then we will own the NFC for years

Garoppolo is too skittish in the pocket, and too slow to maneuver around and get outside of the pocket. He also makes a lot of poor decisions. He has his moments where he can be accurate at intermediate ranges and throws a very pretty spiral. But I don't think he's the guy anymore. Feel like I've seen a large enough sampling. I tend to agree with what SacNiner said, that the real asset is Kyle Shanahan, and we should feel blessed for that. Just as he can make undrafted running backs look good, I think he can make a lot of mediocre QBs look good. We might want to cast our line for another QB in the upcoming draft. Seems like the savings on Jimmy's contract would be worth it to extend players like Bosa and Warner while developing another QB.

We are paying a QB like a franchise QB to not play like he did against the worst pass defense in the league. That's all I can think about right now. Yes we are decimated by injuries, but if supposed inferior QBs with worse teams are able to keep playing against Wilson to the wire where only by Wilson magic they pull it out of their ass at the end, then the QB we are paying should be able to smack around their defense.
You also have a QB that has been playing injured for weeks so Shanahan has been adapting the offense to limit his movement. If Mullens hadn't completely crapped the bed against the Eagles, perhaps Garoppolo wouldn't have been rushed back but it seems pretty clear that he's not close to 100% and that ankle is affecting his movement in the pocket as well as his accuracy.
This is a tough discussion. Jimmy being injured is a big issue. So it falls on Shanahan to make the call whether or not injured Jimmy gives us the best chance to win. It was clear that he didn't. So I question Kyle playing him when he's not even close to being 100%.

We need a guy who has good mechanics, good arm strength, and good ball placement.
He doesn't need to read a defense, since whatever. Kyle just tells his QBs where to throw it most of the time anyway.
Which is probably why Garappolo threw that screen pass to Trent Taylor today despite there being 11 seahawk defenders surrounding him.

Yeah, we all did.
I've never seen somebody play so well, only to regress so dramatically. I didn't think it was possible.

The game was still in reach at 20-7 and then Pettis fumbled in the red zone Seattle scored making it 27-7 which at that point it was to much to overcome.
We would have been up 7-0, or 3-0. Seattle's offense was struggling, playing flat. We keep momentum on our side. Play with a lead.
You throw the pick, Seattle goes up and finds their footing on offense
Mo-men-tum bro. Picks in the red zone are one of the worst things in a game. Picks are always bad, in the red zone they are worse. And Aiyuk looked to be open on the same side of the field
I dont think you know what momentum is.
That's your rebuttal because you are biased and attached to #10? Lol... you think that because it took Seattle three plays to get a first down on the proceeding series that pick wasn't a big deal and didn't change momentum.
Can't believe that I have to "argue" that a redzone interception was an awful play and momentum changer.
