I am starting to sour on him. However, before the niners bring in another QB, they should fix the other issues that they have. But the days of Jimmy from 2017 are long gone.

I'm not there yet, but yesterday was pretty discouraging. I just keep waiting for the guy to blow up and start tearing up teams like he did in that kid season stretch last year when he destroyed the Cards on Halloween. Just am not seeing it this year.

Its a random nameless, faceless QB so you know for certain they won't be a bust like over 50% of first round QBs turn out to be. Garoppolo can't perform at a high level with a jacked up ankle and s**t blocking so clearly he's gotta to go.
Excellent post Phoenix.
Tough to be rationale when we are losing, however, to think just drafting a QB & we will be better moving Fwd is wishful thinking.

What does he do exceptionally well? He has a fairly quick release and is usually accurate on short throws to the middle of the field BUT he is not a deep ball threat, not good at passes outside the numbers, not mobile, turnover prone, does not have the strongest arm and appears to be a product of the scheme AND lastly injuries are affecting him. He is the type of QB that feels replaceable to be frank. Does he suck? No! but I gotta believe that Shanny and Lynch most likely feel they could upgrade that position which is probably why they flirted with Brady.
Question for you all - would the 49ers be a better team as is with Jimmy G next year or with Mullens and using Jimmy's salary to get a starting Center, Guard and another pass rusher or corner? Could probably add 3 new quality starters with what Jimmy is making to be mediocre. It doesnt take a $27 million dollar QB to throw screens, ins/slants and handoff to Deebo on reverses.
great post. agree with all of it.
I think the Niners at the very least, like others have said, is to get someone to sit behind him next season or to push him while he starts 100%. but idk the ins and outs of his contract for next year. would have to restructure and then give him another year to evaluate while someone sits behind him.

It's funny how niner fans are ready to feed Dee Ford to the wolves for his injury history and never staying healthy yet continuously give Jimmy break after break for never staying healthy in his career

no one's going to want to trade for a QB who's ankle is still bothering him and isn't 100%. just stupid.

For better or worse, im thinking that they'll keep jg through next season. Lack of pocket presence and inaccurate throws aren't new at this point.
Fix the problems with the OL, cut coleman, McKinnon, Taylor and Pettis. find rbs/wrs to absorb those touches and the offense will be fine as long as KS doesn't ask jimmy or nick to do toooo much. Shanny is still one of the best play callers in the league and i dont think that particular skill/talent is going to magically disappear.
On another note, there has to be a better time and personnel grouping for the cute s**t.
I dont think a rookie qb will make the warts of the ol and the MASH unit rb room disappear but wth do i know.

Doing nothing isn't the answer either.

Gotta let the rest of the season play out. Still half a season to go and things can change. We dont much right now as far as our offseason positioning will be. Everybody flip flops on Jimmy week to week instead of just letting things play out for a bit. They're not trading him during the season and no new QB is coming any time soon. So might as well chill with all the absolute declarations and just take the lumps that are coming because we have what we have right now.

As we had with Kittle, and thankfully never had to find out, a question arises:
What is Jimmy G's current market value? What kind of dollars would Jimmy command on the open market?
I think this is something we've gotta 1st ponder to have a beat on what happens this offseason. If Jimmy knows he can get the same amount, there's no reason for him to give into a restructure.
Knowing that no team would even give him half of what we're giving him is clearly an incentive to cut him if need be with the intentions of resigning him.
I'm assuming nothing in the contract's current language prevents this.
