JG will be out QB next season regardless

Exactly and I don't get why everyone is fixated on the draft. Let's go win some football games, the team is still in it this year.

Changing a QB isn't going to change that UNLESS they finally approach team building it like they do with the DL...keep adding talent at all levels until the standard is met.

How is "unit pass protection" not a high priority? They spent a f**k ton of money on a FB, top 10 pick on a RT, traded for a top LT, traded for a former 1st rd OG, spent top money on a top 50 pick center...hell they run more 21personnel than anyone (extra blockers if need be).

Good QB play will absolutely help PP...not having our 4th string center and 3rd string RG will help PP. being able to run the ball will help PP.

You think if they stuck Mahomes or Rogers back there they'd get destroyed all game? f**k no. Mahomes doesn't have some all-star OL, especially in the interior.

Does Jimmy ever try to call out where a blitz is coming from before the snap? I saw Nick do it yesterday a bit. I see it happening from other QBs a lot too. But I almost never see Jimmy do it.

Like NY said, a lot of OL play has to do with other factors. And some of those factors Jimmy is horrid at. He needs to improve.
Jimmy does, not every play. but he did

Add an "E" to UNIT and maybe you two can take a break from the Oline stuff for a month or two... Lol

NC won't talk about anything else besides the OL, especially IOL.

He thinks throwing a bunch of cash at IOL or dropping top end picks at it will magically solve everything...regardless of QB play

OL can improve and should. QB is a million times more important in fixing things.

No team is perfect. i mean do you pass on drafting top skill players to pick OL in the fisrt round ?

I've posted this article a couple times in the OL thread...it gives you an idea of what the QBs job is on every snap with PP.

A former NFL offensive lineman explains why pass protection is also the quarterback's job

https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2019/11/8/20954689/nfl-offensive-line-pass-protection-breakdown-mitchell-trubisky-bears

We see McG get pancaked by Donald (and while it's awful) we don't actually see all the missed protection calls, late reads, moving into pressure rather than sliding away from it. Mullens the whole 1st qr didn't have a single pressure yet looked awful. Late reads, bad throws yards left on the field etc...Jimmy isn't close to this bad. He's not great either.

Draft the better player at position of need and importance of position.

Why don't you have these same standards for OL play and unit pass protection in general? I love this mindset!

I never said the OL shouldn't or can't be improved...I've stated there's a s**t ton that goes in PP outside of just OL play. You simply won't acknowledge that lol.

That's all

LOL. When it has affected every game since the dawn of time (even in wins) it's not hard to see anymore. I have no issues pivoting to the "let's get a new QB" crowd now but if this issue isn't fixed, the unit pass protection is just going to turn the next QB into Blaine Gabbert too. And then what do we pivot to next?

There's like 1 QB in the entire league who can make up for piss poor consistent pass protection and even he hasn't been back to a Superbowl despite being in the hunt annually for league MVP.

If you're counting on a QB to makes up for the current standard of unit pass protection issues here, the odds are massively against you.

Yup. Unless it's a G.

Lol no there's about a dozen QBs who make up for less then stellar OL play.

LOL. Did you see Mullens play today?
Mullens is a back- up at best what's the problem?

He helped beat a 7- 3 team. He went 24 for 35 with an INT and the INT was a result of a batted ball by the great Aaron Donald. He had two bad throws to Reed. One over the middle which Reed had a near tantrum over and one down the sideline. I mean everyone should be in good spirits that the back- up beat the division leader. Whether by 3 or by 30 a win is a win.

Yup. Only way we make a pickup is later in the draft or if the Jets are willing to part with Darnold for a 4th.
