But Jesus Christ couldn't play behind our o-line right now. Best we keep modest expectations lol
Are you saying Jesus Christ couldn't evade the rush?
He couldn't. He would get nailed.

They did draft him pretty high because he was supposed to replace Brady, but Tom just doesn't want to decline like most QB's before him, so the Pats were stuck with either trading the GOAT or moving Jimmy because they literally couldn't afford to wait much longer.
Garoppolo was also never going to make it to free agency. If we didn't pull off this trade, someone else would have by Tuesday's deadline, and something tells me Arizona was probably on Bill's other line.
Very well said, what's the old saying?

Agree with others this could be Cassell 2.0 but almost every QB you pick is a calculated risk so at least the front office is firing off shots. Imo, Lynch has done more good for the team in 8-9 months than Baalke did his entire tenure.
Literally the only thing Garoppolo and Cassel have in common is that both played for New England. Cassel never started in college and was a 7th rounder. Garoppolo went in the 2nd round out of a small school and was simply a far better prospect in everyway.
At least try a Kevin Kolb comparison or something, citing Cassel is just plain lazy and you're better than that.
I agree and you can also look at it this way. We got Jimmy... We moved backed 20 spots in round two 2018 depending on how the saints finish and gave up a 3rd last year. I looked at last years draft. Kareem Hunt was the only player I saw that would make a difference now between the pick we gave up and the Bethard pick. Must add again Jimmy was a second round draft pick.... by the Patriots. Are we doubting their front office as well. My guess is that it became clear he wanted to start and was not coming back. They gambled earlier that they could keep him on until Brady retired but it started to become clear they couldn't. Thus they made a move to get something.
I can't remember but weren't the Browns offering their 2nd first round pick for him last year. I think the Patriots overplayed their hand here and took what they could.
My point is we still have a second. Now we don't have the first one but this trade opens up so many different avenues next year where we can build around a QB who can be our guy.
But if we had that extra 2nd round pick we could've gotten an impact player.
Like that backup QB in New England who has looked like a stud every chance he's gotten to play.
If Jimmy was in this draft with the development he has had, top five pick. But yea what if we had that second round pick It could change our franchise. There is a risk. There always is. We risked a second for a franchise QB vs using a top five pick next year. Seems worth it to me.

So if for some reason he has any doubts about Jimmy long term, Kyle can still let Jimmy go in free agency...if Cousins still wants to come here. And give a nig contract to someone more proven. Also gets to see Cousins the rest of this season.
If Cousins looks bad this season , or Kyle has second thoughts. And Jimmy looks iffy... Kyle could franchise tag Jimmy to give him more time and still draft a QB.
All along the way CJ needs to look at this as motivation and show what he's really made of....all he has to do is continue to improve his weaknesses and always be ready.
Must be hard being CJ now... you get your ass kicked these past few weeks for the team... with everyone kissing your ass, asking about your fam and what you did as a kid... then BAM! No one gives a s**t anymore about your Granpa/Taylor Swift/Country Singing Bro. Jimmy Brady 2.0 is here.....That's football.
No way we would give up on JG after 6-7 games when we gave up a 2nd for him. The Cousins plan is officially dead.

hey we agree.. I just posted this a couple pages back.. someone pointed out it avoids us getting into a bidding war...
It may help us get some good FA's going fwd

But I'm willing to give Shanny the benefit of the doubt. The guy knows QB's as well as anyone. If he thinks Jimmy G. can be "the guy," so be it.
Care to explain?
Jimmy G wasnt going to re-sign and the Pats feel like they have a couple more years left of Brady as the starter. So how did get fleeced?
The rules are different now, but it would be like Bill Walsh trading away Steve Young. Which was something he was never going to do because he saw a great deal of potential, and the Niners could sign him to a big contract to ride the bench. Which he did for a long time.
I know, I know. With the cap now, things are different. But, I don't know, something just doesn't feel right.
However, as I said, I'm willing to give Shanny the benefit of the doubt. He's knows what a good QB is.
Still doesn't explained how we got fleeced.

Tons of pats fans where I live...some actually think they will get him back in FA this off season lol. Like we won't at the very least tag him
Not while Tom Brady is standing.

Okay...but by that logic I can point out any traded qb that has flopped. Point being neither one is sure thing. It's a deal shoot either way.
But it's better to take that shot with a 2nd round pick on a QB who has been in the league 3.5 years rather than draft a QB...wait 2-3 to figure him out and evaluate.

If the 49ers continue to suck, they'll be in a position where they can trade back with a team moving up for a QB. They could get back that 2nd they traded for Garoppolo and a whole lot more, which will allow them to attack all their many needs. Addressing OL, WR, pass rusher.....etc.
If Garoppolo works out and they are able to rack up picks from trading down, years from now this could be looked at as the move that helped revive the franchise. Fingers crossed, hoping Pretty Jimmy goes beast mode and becomes everything that Kyle hopes he could be.

Jimmy G has a very small body if work, playing on a very good team, and he hit hurt very fast. Reserving judgement on this. Bellicheat made Cassel look good. And he has never to my knowledge come out in the wrong side of a major trade.
