There we are vs. the Vikes with an unworthy chance of tying the game up before the half even though it shouldnt've been much of a contest by that point.

I'm not sure what Jimmy was trying to accomplish there🤔

prime example of what Jimmy needs to show he's improved on this season; always struggled to see the underneath or roaming Middle linebacker. same thing in the Panthers game that season to Kuechely.

He did this vs AZ in 2019 and week 1 as well (both in the RZ), I believe?

Had to keep his 1:1 TD to INT ratio going, regardless if it was a playoff game
What happened on the Vikings LB Eric Kendrick's interception? Good play by him, bad read by you?

"Yeah, just left it a little short. I had the hole over the top of him. Just left it short. He made a good play on it. Tip your hat to him."

Very simple. People are curious about Jimmy throwing less against GB in the playoffs without seeing the eggs Jimmy laid after a nice 1st drive vs. the Vikes the week before.

It's clear as day why the GB gameplan was run heavy as hell. You'd naturally like to be more fine-tuned up passing the ball in the game right before the Super Bowl, but you want to be there to begin with, so it is what it is.

meet you in the middle here - this is something that actually bothered me a ton going into the SB. Was that, regardless of WHY Shanahan decided to run as much as he did, I always saw it as a disservice to Jimmy and the offense. Just don't think it was a good thing to do for your QB who needs the reps on what could easily turn into a shootout vs. Mahomes. definitely hate that it ended up being mostly run run run, sincerely.

Shanahan was doing what he had to do to win the game that they were playing, not a hypothetical game in the future. If he had us pass more just to get Jimmy more reps and Jimmy ends up throwing a dumb int and costing us the game, he'd look pretty damn stupid. Practice is for getting reps, not playoff games.
After that ugly end of the 1st half, we had like 3 completions in the 2nd half vs. the Vikings. So that's 3 halves of football before the Super Bowl with 9 total completions. Yes, we went towards what was working and away from what wasn't.

But clearly, passing less in the Green Bay game is nothing mysterious at all. It was simply a more fine-tuned version of the 2nd half vs. the Vikes.

100% agreed. It's all about how much you trust your starter when it's playoff time and you clearly have the better team vs your opponents.

Ideally -- and as they always say -- you want to be clicking on all cylinders.

I'm not sure any coach outside of Sean Payton is gonna choose to throw the ball more when your team is averaging 7+ yards per carry.

Re-watching his highlights From 2019, some of those Interceptions we're truly head Scratchers, especially the one against the cards.

This is a good criticism of Garoppolo on an area of his game that needs to improve. Seeing things better, making better decisions, responding better to what the opposing D is trying to do to confuse him...these are some of the things he needs to improve on and I think he can & will.

Again, only 977 total career passing attempts - not a lot at all (his injuries + backing up to Brady). Also, I believe he can continue improving his command of this scheme and being all-around better in it.

Yes and there's even a deep wobbler WTF pass that I think Bourne caught in the 1st half vs. the Vikes I'm referencing. So the way off passes were masked if you only look @ INTs.

He's a QB where when when the short game is working and he's on, he's on. But when he's off, he's off and you're left to adjust as a coach.

This Is Shanny we're talking about though, he loves being aggressive with his play-calling. Just look at how he started the game against the Packers in 2020 with Mullens at the helm and no receivers available.

He most definitely looks better once everything around him Is ticking along just fine, it's when things start to get muddled up is when he panicks most.

Completely agree. The Niners were running it down both the Vikes' and Packers' throats.

One thing that doesn't get mentioned much about those two games: going into them both, the Vikes & Packers had to have a focused game plan to stop Garoppolo as a passer based on what he did during the regular season. Both teams couldn't afford to just stack up against the run all game because of what Garoppolo showed as a threat as a passer that year - this helped open up the running game. Especially with Green Bay, who saw firsthand Garoppolo have a good game against them when the Niners blew them out earlier in the season.

Complimentary football. Something this team does extremely well when Garoppolo plays the entire game. And when this happens, they're incredibly tough to beat.

We have been running that play all year long.

Kendricks didn't bite on the play action up the middle which was supposed to bring kendricks closer to the line.

Great play by Kendrick

We can acknowledge that if you can acknowledge that the 1st half of the Vikes game, we clearly came out passing the ball and mixing it up alot more (run & pass), but the passing game was clearly lacking by the end of it. It's all there on tape,...so how bout it?
