Will he clean it up this year? He should be able to with the additions to the OL (more time to throw)

He tends to do it in every game, that's often. Or do you mean multiple times in a game? Yeah hopefully it gets cleaned up, I think the Mack signing in itself will be huge compared to the s**t show circus gymnastics we've had at C
often in a game like Mulens did last year. Jimmy was good enough where our defense didn't have to win games like it did in 2011

You don't think our defense had to win the game against Pittsburgh when the offense turned the ball over five times? Or against the Rams in week 5 when the offense averaged under 4 yards a play? Or against Washington when they put up 9 points? Or in the second game against the Cardinals when Jimmy threw a pick with about 4 minutes left in the game? Or in the playoffs against Minnesota when our passing offense was struggling badly? The defense had to carry the team in a lot of games in 2019.

and yet, in several of those games Jimmy threw the winning TD pass, and made crucial clutch 3rd down conversions in crunch time when it mattered. despite the ups and downs of the game. that's why losing the SB hurt so bad. because jimmy in his history with us has always been money on 3rd down and pretty clutch in the 4th for the most part. the only times I can ever recall him failing to get it done in the 4th was the SB, and the opening game vs the Cards in 2020.
I think against the falcons also?

but you're right, that year you knew if we had the ball we can score when needed

the game-winning TD was to Julio like right on the line with Ward trying to stop him. game over like instantly.

our defense couldn't stop anything that game. that was coming off a huge high from beating NO I believe.

Except in the Super Bowl.
That's why it hurt so much

jimmy made great throws to wide open guys… but Chris Jones made even a better play to bat down the balls

it is what it is

Odds are he won't be cut and if it happens, he won't sign until FA next year unless a major injury happens this year

Right so he would lose out on millions and not play for a year…only dropping his stock even more for FA in 2022.

I mean it's not that far fetched of an idea to ask him to take a pay cut if they feel like Lance is gonna start at some point.

OK the Niners ask him to take a pay cut. He responds "uh no thanks." Then what NY? You actually think we cut him then? I couldnt see any way that we would flat out cut him because he refused to take a pay cut.

So it goes back to my differing opinion....WE have no leverage. You keep saying Jimmy has none. We arent going to cut him and roll with Lance and Rosen. This is why we wont ask for a pay cut. Jimmy has zero incentive to oblige.

Why wouldn't we cut him? We've spent the entire offseason turning over every rock trying to find someone to replace him, but now we won't cut him? If we had been able to sign Flacco or Dalton, arguably better QBs than Jimmy, Jimmy would already be long gone. We've only kept him this long because we can't find anyone to take him off our hands and he still has some slight value to us as a possible bridge QB while Lance gets ready to start. Once they feel Lance is ready to start then Jimmy has no value to us. Is he a better QB than Sudfeld or Rosen? Maybe, hard to say, but if he is, the difference is not worth $25 million.

They should never had promised Jimmy that they were going to keep him. Now, they're stuck with him this year.

This.

And thankfully, definitely not rolling with Lance and Rosen/Sudfeld.

I like context plus stats, SWH. Context you get from watching each guy play throughout entire games (not highlights, not partial games).

Instead of writing you a big unnecessary response, I'll just ask you this and I want an honest answer: From what you saw in Goff's play as a pro up through the 2019 season and from what you saw in Garoppolo's play from NE days through the 2019 season, which of the two would you have wanted as the Niners' starting QB after 2019?

I'm assuming you have watched a lot of Goff's games like I have - I'm a Cal Bears fan so I've followed him there and in the NFL.

Edit: Just went back and read the whole exchange and what I mentioned...wasn't necessarily referring to you as one of those "other posters" b/c I'm pretty sure you get the "context matters" thing.

Hear hear. Context is everything. Glad your smarter than that. Stats are for losers....especially without context. Jimmy after a TO is a sex machine and deadly efficient for the most part and Goff crumbles and is a joke for the most part. Like I said before, I'm so happy we got to play Goff beating him with our backups was a treat.

Looks like the niners will be better off eventually with Lance and the Rams will be better off with Stafford for sure

But vs the cards in 2020 we had NO Deebo NO Aiyuk basically NO Kittle (hobbled as hell) and a 5th Center from the practice squad. Jimmy did have some poor throws that game and held the ball uncharacteristically too long.

Vs the Falcons remember we were running out the clock with an easy first down and Kittle fumbles untouched trying to get it, a fluke play that gave the falcons the ball around midfield. Also we had 6-7 STARTERS OUT on defense.

Jimmy did a lot with constant injuries on offense with very poor IOL pass protection in general. I'll give him that. This year we have 2 guns (qbs), one for each of you. Our OL could be the best it's been in pass pro since the Garcia days
