I disagree. For all accounts, Jimmy is very well liked AND just helped the team reach the SB. That definitely plays a part and I believe that if a lot of those guys knew Jimmy was being replaced by Dalton or Flacco (no chance whatsoever at winning a ring in 2021), they'd have chosen to go elsewhere.

AND he can't stay on the field so who cares what he did in one magical season 2 yrs ago.

you think people were lining up to play for the Jags when they got SB MVP Foles? Everyone likes Foles too lol.

I will say, I refuse to believe that SF was ever gonna roll into 2021 with Dalton or Flacco plus Jimmy and say we're good to go lol gross. Your depth get's a little better BUT you don't improve at what matters most and you've invested stupid money (in a covid strapped yr) on avg players. I just don't think our FO/Kyle are that stupid.

I refuse to believe that if they sign one of those two or some other vet backup, that they then don't trade 3 1sts for Lance....the plan was always to get better at the starting position. You don't make a move like that based on what you have at the backup position.

I believe this as well. Had they simply brought in any veteran it would be used as a "cheaper" bridge QB to the rookie they were still going to draft and groom over a couple of years. The goal would have been to trade Jimmy at that time for further draft compensation while wiping a big salary off the books and perhaps, be more aggressive in FA.

I can't see Kyle handing the team to a bridge QB with no experience in his system when they are trying to push for a Super Bowl this season.

Not many of the guys we signed to 1 year deals in late March/early April would have done so with Dalton or Flacco on as the starting QB.

That's why it would have been a veteran and preferably, Stafford, hence why Kyle was peeved, as that would send the message they still want to win now but also are preparing for tomorrow with a high upside rookie. Just cheaper...

But Stafford was out as an option before February started. They were looking at Dalton/Flacco much later. There is no 'win now' message with either of them.

agreed

I'm talking about the guys that were already here. A lot of them would have left if they thought we were downgrading at QB for 2021. Which is what Flacco and Dalton would be.

If you think nobody cares about Jimmy helping the team to a SB two seasons ago, why would they want to play with a QB that hasn't even been to the postseason in 6 or 7 years?

I mean you're simply guessing they leave…they more than likely leaving if they got more cash elsewhere. Not the case for a lot of them.

who was here in 2019 that resigned (that played meaningful snaps) juice, tartt, Kwill? For the most part everyone else didn't even play with Jimmy and from what they saw in 2020, not sure how you look at that and say of for sure QB caliber QB play

I'm saying they understand that neither guy is "the dude" and clearly that's the case with Lance here. Players aren't determining where they sign because of Jimmy G lol.

I'm not saying it's specifically because of Jimmy, it's the overall situation at QB.

This team with Jimmy at QB wins games and can compete for a championship.
This team with Flacco or Dalton as QB cannot.

I mean if you signed last yr to play with Jimmy and then saw his play on the field, not sure how you say oh for sure SB caliber QB talent please let's sign up for that again.

this team imo isn't vastly different with Dalton or Jimmy imo. Flacco is poop. Imo none of the 3 would be starting the full year regardless.

End of the day if you're a player in SF… Lance is the guy, not Jimmy. they also had no real clue who the QB was gonna be, we were interested in every player all through FA.

You're more than likely resigning because of the coaching, familiarly and the rest of the roster (or lack of options).

Either way, we still didn't sign those guys to back up Lance

Correct that was possibly the plan though….only way I see SF rolling into this season with a combo of Jimmy G and Flacco/Dalton is if they were unable to trade up or unable to trade for a stud vet.

they could have told both those dudes, hey we will get back to you after the draft. They didn't wait and SF just kept Jimmy.

not a chance they don't send 3 1sts to Miami because they signed Dalton. That's been my debate.

And my debate is that it was entirely possible that could have happened if the Bears weren't idiots.

Jimmy gonna ball out this year. The talent on offense is vastly improved since the crap we had in 2019.

How is the talent on offense "vastly improved" since 2019?

Offensive line: maybe slightly better but time will tell
Running game: no improvement
Tight end: no improvement
Wide receiver: slight improvement if any

Where is this "vast improvement" that you speak of?

prolly running back committee and the offensive line. WR's more experienced and got Aiyuk. gonna be fun to watch

You said that Lance was only considered when Kyle missed out on Stafford. That is the characterization I disagree with.
The 49ers never told Stafford or any one of his reps they had any interest in him.

Did they consider vet options, yes.
Did they pursue them, no.
Was Lance Plan A, yes.

For starters Stafford wasn't a free agent. You'd need to get in contact with the team more than anything. Beyond that, you have no idea who told what reps exactly what unless you are alot more connected to NFL front offices than we all can tell. Have you tapped people's cell phones, FBI-style? Because otherwise that's just an errant statement you have no clue about.

2ndly,...let it be known that "Lance plan A" is your new line that is just plain weak,...because your original line was that we had to hear about over and over again last season was "we'd never be interested in a QB like Stafford",...and it's a line that, let's be honest, completely collapsed from under you. Let's just keep the score accurate. This was your argument. That was your position. Not who's option A or B after a shocking trade that surprised you.

He knows he was wrong, but he's gotta save face in NT to strangers lol. That's why I said it's best to just ignore it and let him argue with himself.

Riding coattails again. Sad

i think its time to move on from this subject once and for all lol

There is no chance the running game has "improved" since 2019, let alone vastly improved. Is the offensive line better this season? Should be. Is it substantially better? Don't see it. WR is a wash. Is Aiyuk better now than Emmanuel Sanders was. Debatable, and I Love Aiyuk.

I just dont see this vast improvement. It doesn't exist.. Saying what we have now is vastly better is just another way to minimize what Jimmy had around him in 2019.

Well I mean there's no way we're going to actually know until we see how the running game is this season vs. 2019. I think you just have to look more granularly at certain areas on offense. Vastly may be a bit of a stretch. definitely wouldn't use that word before the season has even started. it could exist. cant say it has vastly, but also cannot definitively say that it "doesn't exist yet either. the line will make everything look better in general though. bolstered LT, C, and hopefully McGlinch wont be a pancake as often. ( I think he addressed this in the offseason in terms of building more strength/increasing weight)
