Hopefully. There is no guarantee Trey even starts in 2021 though. If for some reason he isn't ready, I'd much rather have Jimmy than Dalton, regardless of cost.

I don't think Jimmy is $21M better than Dalton....I also think Dalton has proven to be a little more durable. So for me that's debatable. Is what it is now.

Kyle knows he can win with JG in 2021. I doubt he feels the same about Dalton.

A winning season is priceless.

Correct that was possibly the plan though….only way I see SF rolling into this season with a combo of Jimmy G and Flacco/Dalton is if they were unable to trade up or unable to trade for a stud vet.

they could have told both those dudes, hey we will get back to you after the draft. They didn't wait and SF just kept Jimmy.

not a chance they don't send 3 1sts to Miami because they signed Dalton. That's been my debate.

And my debate is that it was entirely possible that could have happened if the Bears weren't idiots.

Well agree to disagree there....IMO the only possible way we're sitting with Dalton/Jimmy right now is if they weren't able to move up in the draft or trade for a better vet. I wouldn't be shocked if they actually drafted Mac Jones if they stayed at 12. They'd be right around 2/3rd in the league in money spent on QBs in that scenario...with freaking Dalton/Jimmy lol woof.

They weren't signing any vet backup until after the draft IMO.

FWIW Tony Pauline of PFN said this...

https://www.ninersnation.com/2021/5/7/22425087/49ers-report-shanahan-wanted-dalton-and-was-upset-when-he-got-away

They wanted to sign Andy Dalton in free agency as their veteran quarterback and then trade Garoppolo and draft Lance. I'm told Shanahan was pretty upset when they did not land Dalton

I do get why Dalton chose the Bears at that time....now he's in the same situation he would have been if he went to SF.

Lol
poor Kyle was upset he didn't get Stafford (even though no offer was made) and Kyle was upset he didn't get Dalton (even though no offer was made)!!
lol
poor dude

People are painting the FO as Keystone Cops getting outmaneuvered left and right.

I think they got exactly what they wanted.

I know he really wanted to improve at the starting QB position...enough so that he gave up 3 1sts and a 3rd to get it done.

Yes, because anything less wouldn't have been much of an upgrade.

this is a hella lame comparison. really lightyears off the mark.

Jimmy gonna ball out this year. The talent on offense is vastly improved since the crap we had in 2019.

How is the talent on offense "vastly improved" since 2019?

Offensive line: maybe slightly better but time will tell
Running game: no improvement
Tight end: no improvement
Wide receiver: slight improvement if any

Where is this "vast improvement" that you speak of?

Extremely wishful thinking at this point. All of the guys that are still here have extra wear and tear on their bodies,...vs someone like McGlinchey whom should be more developed looking like he's regressed thus far.

We all hope and wish the offense is better but it's wishful thinking right now,..especially until we get MUCH better QB play than all of our QBs showed last year.

Yeah, on paper, comparatively, the pass protection (and mobility at QB that includes Jimmy now) should be far better and a running back staple that can catch as well as run inside more, experience at WR and if Hurd or a higher end 3WR emerges, it definitely can be an improved unit. Vastly? Maybe too strong a word as we snuck up big time on a lot of teams especially with the running game. That probably won't happen again.

Lol the "on paper" intel from the beginning of the season last year wasn't worth jack squat. We can look at what's on paper a multitude of ways. As of now we have a rook @ QB and another that looked pretty iffy to bad last year. It's a coin flip until we see something,...but erring on the side of caution,...I'd have to side with a team that ran right over just about everyone they faced when needed to.

Did he!! f**k thanks for the update!!
jesus dude like taking to a broken record.
Anyways Not the point..
You guys keep saying he wanted stafford & Dalton, and every other qb out there.
I'm just saying If he wanted stafford then there was no way he was getting lance & I don't believe for a minute he wanted stafford at all.
I think once he decided to go all in on lance, then the rest of theIr activities were just window dressing..
Think he was just giving props to give props about the stafford trade to the Rams.

we seriously have NOTHING to complain about as niner fans. other teams/fans would kill to be in the spot we're in; yet, there always is room for complaint for some reason lol

Agreed, SkyZer0. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Garoppolo + Lance + Rosen or Sudfeld plus all the other talent signed/re-signed/drafted...let's roll! Looking forward to this squad taking on any team in the league.

a key factor we're forgetting; a true homefield advantage again with fans

going to be sooo f**king hype for us but most importantly for the players

You don't think that evened out last year with our away opponents not having homefield advantage?

Or is Levi's Field really a place where opposing offenses cant hear anything?

Dude relax.

yeah I'm saying it was reported they went after every possible QB out there. They were trying to improve the QB room including upgrading the starting position. That's not a myth or made up, it's a fact

We get it you love Jimmy and will defend him until he's not here…that's fine but be objective about the situation.

I'm sure you will defend Lance all the same when he's the starter…End of the day I will be just as objective with Lance as I've been with Jimmy.

let's get ready for TC and get ready to talk live football

random, who else?

Lol you're getting like Woo now.

Doubt it,...as I'm not into dissection male body body parts over the offseason as much as some others (you, for instance). Unless I had a 200 lb basketball center on my team that was outmuscled all year, how sculpted a guy is or isin't doesn't move the needle for me.

I am alot more of an on-the-playing-field observer than you are, though,...and have said (and proven to you w/details, remember?) that Jimmy has a penchant for slow starts and it's a safe assumption for me that he could work harder to improve his game every offseason more than he does. Wasn't he a LBer at one point in his career before switching up?

I don't think he has the work-a-holic gene,...no doubt about it. But we have this young rook that I'd bet has lit a fire. Which,...isin't going to show up with body pics, btw. I believe Kaepernick looked like a Greek God @ some points out there, but probably could've worked on X's and O's and fundamentals more.

So per the usual,...just clearing up misinfo.

i still find it hilarious that you believe you know Jimmy's internal drive.

"he could work harder"

:::sigh::: More misinfo.

I don't know Jimmy's internal nor external drives,...I'm not a hacker for 1.

For 2,...this is a messageboard where people are saying what they think and what they observe. If we only want news instead of thoughts and opinions, that's what the Google News feed is for. There'd be zero need for a messageboard.

I'm pretty convinced he doesn't work as hard as some of his peers that are better players, given the holes that have been in his game from 1 year to the next. He starts slow routinely,...then he catches on. Year after year I've heard him having slow starts in camp so that's just my observation.

I wouldnt be surprised at all if Trey has bucked this trend,...if anything, I'm calling it,...which is the opposite tone that Zero takes that I guess Jimmy has seen Trey drafted and really still doesnt care this offseason. I've said exactly the opposite thus far this offseason. But again, let's let practice begin 1st.

I find it hilarious that instead of countering with something that shows otherwise (because bod picks doesnt do it), we have to resort to to this. If it was his former tutor Brady, I could easily find a hundred examples of the offseason work he puts in.

lol misinfo. and yes i countered this ridiculous take of yours already earlier in the offseason with examples from college to the pros.

Examples of what? If it's okay with Zero I'll dig it up.

I never said he goes to the Bahamas for 2 months every year and roams around as a drunkard. Again,...I'm comparing him to high-level players due to his contract.

I saw zero improvement from that poor playoff showing on into the start of 2020.
