I mean it is pretty ideal.

To have a "Next Gen" QB

Sit behind a Qb who took the 49ers to a SB 2 years ago

Dont you?
Yeah the only demons we'd be lined up for is if some superstar player we could really, really use wants out of his team and we'd otherwise have the salary cap space for him (Xavien Howard *cough cough*).

Aside from that,...hang onto Jimmy.

The defense did their job for the most part for 3 quarters of the SB. there is no way i was going to be comfortable with a minuscule lead vs patty maholmes in the 4th.

with like 11 mins left in the 4th, the defense got yet another interception.
things were looking good.

the offense didn't score any points in the 4th when they had like 3-4 drives to do something.

so no for me i don't blame the defense on the loss just because they gave up that 3rd & 15.

Jimmy g and the offense as a whole did not execute as a cohesive unit enough to put the game away. that 3rd and 15 shouldnt have mattered. the offense failed to score any points. unacceptable. hats off to the chiefs d-line though. they manhandled us and really stepped up too.

This ^^ when you continue to give the ball back to the most explosive offense In the league, bad things are going to happen, regardless of how good the Defense Is, especially when the rules are In favour of the Offense to begin with.

First off random49er I never said Jimmy "never lost a super bowl", there's plenty blame to go around on what happened in that 4th quarter.

and yes the defense deserves a lot of it , giving up a 3rd & 15 when the Chiefs sideline was just about ready to quit, yes I know Bosa was held, bad calls are part of the game, champions find a way to overcome . Sherman getting manhandled the way he did. Even Jimmie Ward said Sammy Watkins was the reason KC won the game, I guess he's a Jimmy G simp too? I seriously wonder if some of you actually watch these games or just read stats on Twitter

Defense dominated the most potent offense In the league for 3 quarters, Including two Interceptions. At some point, the offense needs to sustain a drive In order to keep Mahones on the sideline, unfortunately, the Offense struggle big time, not entirely Jimmy's fault, but that's the way things turned out.
We had a 10 point lead. Jimmy 100% could've and should've won us that game and he flat out failed but the defense deserves just as much criticism. Nobody stepped up. Nobody.

Treys here to fix this though

The receivers got open, jimmy made the correct throws, just so happened that the balls were batted down on some big third downs. It was just great plays by the defense

Good question.

And it's not so much "it takes 2 years to learn this offense"...I've heard it's more like "it takes two seasons to be close to mastering this offense," where you're on almost the exact same page as Shanahan when the play call comes in re: facing D formations, down & distance, game situation, etc. (I heard Matt Ryan was at that point sometime in his Year 2).

Two great things about this team's top two QBs going into this season: 1) Garoppolo has an excellent grasp of this offense and has shown he can be very effective; 2) Lance is said to be picking things up quickly and we keep hearing about his outstanding overall work ethic.

Many posters, including you, have spoken at length about how this team is in "win now" mode, or at a point they are able to compete for a Super Bowl. If that's the case, unless your argument is this team is in "win now" mode only for this season (which I believe to be false), then it necessarily follows that Lance should start sooner, not later. As the sooner he starts, the sooner he will master the offense, and thus, the sooner he will be able to produce / influence the team's success.

Jimmy crumbled as did the defense - it was a team collapse.
You do know that we were playing the KC defense right? Well they made some big stops in that 4th quarter. It happens

Yeah, but we didn't finish them off like we should have. It was a combo of them playing better and us letting them back in it.

We'll see what happens. Yes, this team can win it now - "win now" mode. No doubt about it with the talent this team has plus the QB room.

And of course my argument isn't "win now mode only for this season" - not even close. If Lance is the QB we hope he is, he'll be fine picking up & running well this offense & starting whenever Shanahan determines that to be.

You have no clue as to whether Lance "should start sooner, not later" - none of us do because: 1) there's still a lot of time to evaluate the QBs for Shanahan to determine which one gives this team the best chance to win; and 2) no one has even seen Lance play a preseason game yet.

It's a little baffling you can throw out that statement this early about Lance starting sooner than later without having a better idea about how he'll do at the talented NFL level, its game speed, seeing in the heat of the moment various defensive formations that try to confuse or bait QBs, etc., etc., etc.

If Garoppolo is QB1 to start the season like I think he'll be, and if this team is winning and he's playing well as the season goes on, I don't see any reason for the team to have a timeline this season to throw Lance in there as a starter just to get him experience, just to get him to be able to "master the offense sooner to be able to produce sooner."

Again, let's see what happens.

...Again, let's see what happens.

It's a battle that's not over, but it's also inaccurate to say we don't have any clue.

If all the reports right now was that Jimmy looked much better than Trey,...you'd be here right now telling us it's a pretty good clue thus far that Jimmy should be the starter.

Training camp is literally the time we've waited for to get clues on this stuff,...and we're getting them. There's still alot to unfold, but it's really no doubt who the more athletic, capable QB is. Let's hope he's not too inexperienced,...though it covertly seems like that's actually what you're hoping for.

The board isint going to suddenly freeze for a month until we see what happens. We're going to gossip day in, day out about what's happening right now. Find a way to enjoy it.
