Sometimes, Kyle should just shut up.

They'll probably be looking for more if Wentz is out for an extended period of time.

Getting surgery and out 5-12 weeks. Lynch work that phone!

Colts have $11 mil in cap space.

We eat some of Jimmy's cap in exchange for better draft pick?

Cash (and cap space) isn't tradeable in the NFL unlike MLB and NBA

Why? Every coach in the history of the game tells the kids they will have to be the greatest ever to take the job of the established vet. That is literally how it works even if you only have a pylon and a jugs machine...you still tell the kid he has to earn it.

No they mean we retain salary to help them stay cap compliant and they give us a better pick. Still not worth it, you go into the season before you make that move.

It isn't but there's ways. Look no further than what happened with Goff and Stafford. One of those first round picks was 100% because of Goffs contract that Detroit took on. For us, it could be something where they give him a hush hush that they will sign him and we cut him, eating the 2.8 mil cap hit. Then they sign him to whatever deal they want, obviously less than 26 million.
^ But then again, I don't know how we would justify the pick if we cut him. I don't know just throwing s**t at the wall on a Monday lol

Sorry, the bold is what I meant by not tradeable. You can't "retain salary" on a player you trade away except for the "dead money" portion, of which Jimmy only has $2.8 million this year. The Colts would have to absorb the rest of the cap hit and they definitely don't have space for that.

You'd have to rework his contract like the Panthers did with Bridgewater before trading him to Denver.

There it is, thanks man! I knew someone just did it but couldn't remember and almost got there with the Goff example lol

Bridgewater had a $17 mil salary for 2021 with $10 mil GTD and a non-GTD 2022 salary of $20 mil. Carolina cut off the last year and changed the 2021 amount to $11.5 mil which broke down to a $7 mil restructure bonus paid by them with the balance left for the Broncos to pick up.
If they were to do something similar with Jimmy's deal, I'd imagine the trade compensation wouldn't be very much. Probably a 5th at best. Is a 5th and some cap space worth having no reliable depth at QB? After what John and Kyle have been through thus far, I think they'd rather keep him.
The point of getting rid of Jimmy is to save money and get draft capital. The Colts would be stupid to bring another inconsistent, injury prone and expensive QB and send draft capital for it. They can't really think they'll consistently compete with Mahomes, Allen, Herbert with guys who are damaged goods.
They are on a situation where their roster is too good to suck enough for a top pick to get a QB, unless everybody gets hurt like the 2020 49ers. Instead of trading for Buckner perhaps should've traded up for Herbert. Anyways, the Colts have been screwed for a while at the position, well deserved on how they wasted the career of one of this generations greatest talents.

I don't know why you think JG is only worth a 5th. Sam Darnold was traded for a 2nd and 4th and he was statistically the worst QB in the NFL last year.
