I think the issue some have is that it's an insignificant play on a day that was overwhelmingly good by JG and it feels like people are nitpicking because...well...it's Jimmy.
I get criticizing Jimmy after the Colts game. If he put another couple games up like that I was gonna be firmly on the, "start trey" wagon. But I bend towards positive views on our guys until they give me ample evidence to not be positive anymore. Like, I'm not gonna hope McG gets better at pass pro, at this point.
When our qb has a good game, we want to celebrate that and look positively for the future and 2 days of harping on a play like this is just kind of ridiculous.
No. Its because people who homer out for Jimmy are incapable of accepting even the slightest criticism. Even on that play, every single person in this thread has said Deebo should have caught it. There shouldnt be a debate at all. But some people have to defend him no matter what, which leads to 20 pages of debate.
Jimmy played very well. Everyone agrees.
So much this^^^
But to be fair, it really does matter what you've read and what you haven't. I internally try to give all the posters the benefit of the doubt that I didn't see in those early Jimmy "hate" pages of threads. I don't believe anyone has read every single post so we're all the mercy of our findings. What really pisses me off are the people I know were there and still making the same logical fallacies about people hating Jimmy. Someone's perspective on the debate shouldn't bother you… the rhetoric they use to debate, should. If that makes sense? There's plenty of posters that I respect the way they debate but disagree with their perspective. And admittedly , there might be more Jimmy "hate" that I haven't seen. Keyword "MIGHT" :) It goes both ways.
I just think it's unrealistic to have a forum where everyone agrees on everything. IMO that's the whole point of this thing is to discuss topics we don't agree on. Although there's certainly ways to be more intellectually honest and respectful. (Myself is definitely included) That should be the goal… and not just to discuss things we all agree on.
The problem is people trying to belittle and make everything negative out of something so amazingly miniscule like the last few days. It's tiresome and it's blatant bias. Every day since I've signed up it's been nothing but negativity from certain posters. I may be a Jimmy "Homer" and give him the benefit of the doubt myself more often than not but I understand he has flaws as well. I have no shame in admitting that his leash is getting shorter with me but I also believe he has a chance to get us into the playoff hunt and make this season not garbage. No doubt that scenario is a huge "if" as Jimmy hasn't proven a thing yet. He absolutely has to play well on Sunday and show he can win. The only true stat that matters. If he can't, it may be time. It may be not.
But that's the thing, these fans can't even give it a rest. It's like "yeah he played well but man that one pass let's talk about that forever" It's non stop negativity towards him. Relentless really. Every day. To call that "slight criticism" is just not true. It's every move he makes(exaggerating).
I guarantee you that I will never be that petty towards Trey and I hope you guys remember this when fans start stupidly picking apart his ever move over stupid s**t. Remember that "slight criticism" remark. Jimmy is a good QB. Is he great? Not by any means but he has gotten us to a SB and has actually played well in spurts. The fact that many here can't even give the guy a little support, just a little support just sucks imo. That's my issue.
