Jimmy playing through injury = really bad QB
Jimmy injury frequency = hard to count on Jimmy being consistently really good QB

I've felt playing Jimmy was the right thing to do all year. For this game, I'm hesitant with either choice. I don't think Trey is ready for putting the pressure of an entire season on his shoulders for one game. I also don't trust throwing Jimmy out there to play through injury.

At the end of the day, I might be leaning more towards Trey for this game. I like Jimmy, but not when he's trying to play through an injury.

Real good QB is a stretch…also pretty sure Lance had all the pressure on Sunday all the same. They lose that game and they're out basically.

for me in W18 it's all about continuity and reps, Jimmy has all that this yr….if he's good enough to practice this week then he should start, but having a grade 3 sprain makes that highly unlikely.

Whoever gives us the best chance to win.
If Jimmy is 100% no doubt play him but no way he's not with a torn ligament. Can't afford to have him throwing horrific passes

Last year Jimmy got stomped on by a defensive lineman due to poor pass protection which started his ankle issues. His calf injury this year, though relatively minor, was due to poor pass protection. His thumb injury was due to poor pass protection. Trey will be playing behind the same oline. I think it shallow analysis to blame a player for injury when there are other significant things at play. On the upside for Trey he does seem a little bit more aware in the pocket of incoming defenders and can jink around. I hope that helps prevent defender inflicted injuries.

Gonna be the same as everything else we've heard. If it is indeed a grade 3, it will require surgery, which he will be getting. It will not heal in 2 weeks time. Now, let's say hypothetically they find a way to manage the pain well enough that he can practice during the week, and start on Sunday. As soon as anything re-aggravates the injury, he will be out again and Lance will be in, only this time without preparing all week as the starter.

I do not have access. The best guess I can offer is to read what reporters print and say after Wednesday's practice. If they spot Jimmy Garoppolo tossing a football around, even on the sidelines, there's a chance Jimmy gets the start against the Rams.

So if nobody touches him he's fine. Great. Welcome to the real NFL where QBs take hits. Some a lot more than Jimmy without getting hurt bad enough to miss substantial time. For some reason he gets hurt easy. Weak joints? Weak bones? I don't know but he's always getting hurt. I thought he might actually make it through this year healthy since it's an odd year but he couldn't do it.

I hope Trey doesn't get hurt as easy. Time will tell.

Ive got news for you: literally every QB in the NFL takes hits. Many have worse lines than jimmy and don't miss as many games.

Blaming a player for injuries is just weak. It is a ridiculous analysis.

Yup. QBs From the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s would take an absolute battering at times.

Wait, but you just blamed our offensive line for his injuries, though. So basically you are saying its ok to blame other players for someone's injuries, but not the player himself? I mean, you said he hurt his thumb due to poor pass protection, but Jimmy didnt get hit until 3.5 seconds into the play (at least a full second after Jimmy chose to ignore a wide open Jajuan Jennings running right in front of his eyes). So who really is at fault here?

Just a ridiculous post. "Blaming a player for injuries is just weak"......right after I just blamed other players for his injury. Incredible. LOL

It's harder to pass rush a mobile QB like Trey, and easier to do so with an immobile QB like Jimmy. Just from a defensive line point of view, you have to rush in a contain manner so there isn't any holes that a mobile QB can exploit to get past the DLine for some easy run gains. Because if a mobile QB gets past the line of scrimmage on 3rd and long, and all the defenders are 10+ yards from the LOS, there's a good chance the mobile QB can make that first down conversion. On top of that you have to spy the QB, and that also might take that player out of coverage or a blitz.

As for Jimmy, you know he's not going to get away from most defensive ends, who can run as fast or faster than Jimmy, so you can blitz him or you can do all sorts of stunts and dogs to shake the protection and still expect Jimmy to be where he is for the sack. Jimmy also has that linebacker mentality and will take on DLinemen and Linebackers instead of going down. I think Trey has more of a QB mindset and will duck and get down or go out of bounds or throw the ball away. Jimmy will stand there and hold the ball and take the sack instead of throwing the ball away - at least from what I saw - is the difference between Trey and Jimmy.

I don't blame Jimmy for trying to make something happen in that situation.
Injuries happen. I blame the OL when they Ren't providing decent PP.

I don't blame anyone for this injury.
