There are a group of people (very large group) who believe in a veteran QB who has shown ability to win and would like him leading us in a make or break it game and/playoff run, instead of a rook. A rookie, who albeit played ok against the Texans but not really ready to say ok, go beat the rams, bucs, GB rook.
Next year im sure you'll get your wish, but we'll see how it goes.He may work out

In the video of him throwing, to be honest it doesn't even look any different at all to me. Him starting is more of a possibility than I thought (without seeing the video)

Same, looks no different other than him having a wrap around his thumb. He's gonna start

Pretty wild, grade 3 sprain is no joke....Jimmy's a tough SOB if he can play and actually perform. respect

For real. Wow.

I just can't see him playing

good watch. i agree with this guy.

Agree.

This is good. But I picked up on the line of "the 49ers have no confidence in Trey Lance." I don't know where that's coming from. I think Shanahan and the team have plenty of confidence in the kid. Shanahan always defers to his veteran players. He is loathe to start a rookie, at any position. He's done it when he has to, but tends to defer to experience over potential talent.

It's a guessing game, but I still think Trey Lance starts for the 49ers this Sunday. This game is far too big to go into it with an injured QB. As much as I love Jimmy Garoppolo, he IS injured. He IS hurting. He risks further injury with live game action, possibly career ending injury.

I just don't see how Garoppolo starts.

A Healthy Trey > Injured Jimmy, in my opinion.

Trey's development from the first half of the Houston game to the second half (according to Orlorvsky) was frighteningly fast. Imagine what Trey can evolve into, when faced with a playoff defense like the Rams vs a bottom feeding defense like the Texans. I'm mentally prepared for a loss. It's no different than when Jimmy blew his knee out and the season was lost. The season comes down to one game - this Sunday. What I'd like to see this Sunday -- is Trey playing lights out and making some great improvement - if it's a loss or a win. I just want to see him get better, and get ready to be QB1 next year. I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of Jimmy playing a game in a 49er uniform. He is a very good QB, he just doesn't have the kind of durability a top flight QB needs to have to make all pro year in and year out.
please dont play Jimmy lol
These bums are going to play this hurt bum.
Jimmy is better than Lance. Maybe that's not the case someday, but right now it is and it's really not close.

If you can't see that I don't know what you're watching.

I agree that healthy Jimmy is better then Trey. The healthy part is important though. Injured Jimmy is buns. If Jimmy starts and is looking off I really hope he's on a short leash

When people say "it's really not close" that typically weakens their point....like in this case.

Is Jimmy better than Trey right now? Probably. Did Jimmy play exactly how Trey did this past weekend multiple times this year. Yes.
Why would they want to start Jimmy?

5-0 against the Rams.

If Trey starts, the pressure is massive on Trey and Kyle because of Jimmy's absolute ownership of the Rams.

Go with the ROOKE!!

at least Grappy is the veteran that can come in from the sideline and have more patience...

if you don't know the answer, can't help you. Come on, reasonable minds can differ.

He didn't have a screwed thumb in those wins. Trey is the guy.

If the defense holds the Rams to <20 points like they have in 4 of the 5 matchups that Jimmy has won against them, then I like our chances with either QB. Nobody is going to give Kyle crap for starting Trey over a QB who doesn't have a working thumb (at least not anyone rational), but if Kyle starts Jimmy and he plays poorly or is clearly not 100% and we lose, Kyle will get a lot of s**t.

Trey can throw 10 yard passes just like Jimmy, plus more. He just needs to play - if Jimmy can't throw straight, you got to give the start to a healthy Trey.

if you wanna ignore JG's quick release which is one of the main reasons he is so effective against the Rams

Trey is nowhere near Jimmy right now in terms of understanding and diagnosing plays and in general running Kyle's offense. There is a reason Shanahan wants Jimmy out there so badly. I get Trey is new and exciting, but this year, clearly. Jimmy gives the niners the best chance at making a deep run in the playoffs. The injury is the only concern.
