If CAR wants cap relief, I guess Darnold in exchange is an option. But for the 49ers, releasing Jimmy gives more cap space than taking in Darnold ($19). I think I got that right.

They don't need cap relief, they just don't want to pay Jimmy $27M. Can't blame them. IMO if Jimmy does go somewhere in a trade he's redoing that deal (possible short extension) regardless. If he get's cut he's not gonna find a ton of money on the market at this point anyway.

At this point no....come WK1 yes. Until then see if you can get something for him. Sounds like the Panthers are trying to move down in this draft to get more draft capital. Take a day 2 pick this yr and next. Panthers can give Jimmy a extension and try to go back to the well in a yr or so to find the FQB.

I agree. Not at this point. That is why I said after he clears a medical exam. It would have to before week 1 or else we would be on the hook for his $27 million or whatever, correct?

I just don't think eating that money is worth the draft capital gained. Unless of course, their was someone in the draft that they were absolutely sold on. Otherwise, what's the point?

Now we will have to wait for the Murray dominoes to fall

I'm telling yeah Panthers are gonna try to move down, get extra picks and use one of those picks on Jimmy. Give him a small extension to spread out that cap hit and let Jimmy show what he's got. They can go all in on a QB in a yr or so.

He will be cleared more than likely before TC. That's what the reports are saying. They can cut him right now and save $18.1M. If he's cleared then it's back up to $25M. If he's cut before being cleared and signs with another team, SF will get a credit in 2023 on that $7.5M (depending on how much he signs for with the new team).

The only situation they "eat" all that money if he's on the roster WK1 and I see no scenario where that happens...especially at that price.
I have noticed Billbirds 2 1st post have died off. What happened?

Fool me once… shame on you. Fool me twice…

I would say that depends on what the compensation is. I'd pay half of that for a first and some change. Maybe more.

If I'm the Panthers I'm taking Baker over Jimmy.

If the asking price of each is the same I agree.

That would make sense if they were competing for his services. They know we are not keeping him in '22, so why not just save their picks and wait for him to be a FA?

There's a small chance that if Jimmy becomes a FA, two or three teams will be interested in him.
Tell Saleh if he wants a job back next offseason he has to flip us a 4th for JG now
