There are 2 types of sports writers. One just praises the local teams and is well liked by all. Problem is the articles are usually boring and predictable. Then you have guys like Cohn, Ira Miller, Ray Rato and others like them. They write a lot of stuff that fan boys don't want to hear and some players can't handle. They're fine with that because people read them and talk about them. That's what they get paid for.

Some of you may not be old enuugh to remember Howard Cosell but when he was on MNF he was loved and hated equally. People tuned in to hear him no matter whether they liked him or not. On Tuesday morning people were talking bout him. That's what ABC paid him for. Writers and commentators don't always believe what they say. Sometimes they just want to create a buzz.

A beat reporter's job is to report on the team, not to make himself the center of every story, which is Cohn''s schtick. The only value they have to the fan base is in their ability to establish positive relationships within the organization so that they are in a position to get an honest take on what is going on.

It seems like Maiocco has had at least a couple of lengthy sitdown interviews with Kyle and Lynch every year that they have been here because he has earned the trust of the team. The one he did with Lynch this past season had some pretty pointed questions in it that clearly had Lynch on his heels.

Cohn will never get an interview like that because he chiefly seems to view his role as an adversarial one. Because of that I suspect just about everyone in the organization hates his guts, which means they will probably never give him the kind of access that Maiocco gets, which means he will always be on the outside looking in with his snarky, arrogant takes and be fairly useless as a source for anything worthwhile.

His other problem is that he simply isn't very smart about the game. He always has a bunch of absurd takes which he tries to validate through his revolving door of 'guests' some of whom are actually pretty knowledgeable, like that kid Vish.

If SI had any sense they would hire him as their beat guy and give Cohn the boot. He has a very pleasant demeanor, is well spoken, sees the game pretty clearly and doesn't seem to be a guy who would just be lapdog for the team but would ask good questions and provide interesting takes. Maybe we should start a petition

I know Garoppolo is a good QB. You're all going to witness some of his greatness soon and miss him. I'll be the first one posting his highlights.

So you're going to have 1 post per week if you are planning on posting his highlights? Will you also post his regular 1 interception per game highlight? (I'll be generous and cut it to every other game)

Personally I will not miss JG if Lance goes 0-17. Trey may not be the answer but JG is not for sure and it's time to try and upgrade the position.

I was mocked for pointing that we have a faction of fans that would rather lose than keep Jimmy.

Upgrading the position is going 0-17...

Along with the uniform, I think Jimmy Garoppolo would fit well with this slogan.

Panthers want nothing to do with him. All the reports/media talk is drafting a QB or possibly Baker.

Looks like it's Baker to the Panthers.

Best place for him.
I have tuned into some of the Panthers media. There are voices inside their organization, like OC Ben McAdoo, who would not value Baker Mayfield as high.

Ben McAdoo on Baker Mayfield:
"This guy is kinda like a pocket quarterback that is short and with small hands"

Baker has a shoulder injury as well. Not as long recovery I believe but both have injuries.
