Not only that but his cap hit is going to be higher than any other player on the team and he will be a backup QB. There is no way John and Kyle can spin that into a positive.
Well unless he isn't the backup.
You are hoping and praying, aren't you?
If he beats out Trey than cool. If Trey beats him cool. I'm not terrified of competition like you dudes. I have no bias.
Finding the thought of a QB competition laughable is not the same as fearing it. Jimmy will almost certainly find himself in one, it just won't be on this team.
Yeah sure. You guys should welcome competition.
And as far as "this is Treys team" who told you guys that? If it really was they wouldn't be afraid to come out and say it. And Ive heard the "they aren't saying it to get a trade" then why would they admit there was no offers?
that was just so they can light a fire under Jimmy.
we only drafted Trey to be a backup. Jimmy getting a 10 year extension.

49ers convert $12M of Darnold's 2022 Salary into bonus and sign him to a 1 year extension. Darnold's contract value:
2022 Base: $6M
2022 Pro Rated Bonus: $6M
2022 Cap Hit: $12M
2023 Base: $4M
2023 Pro Rated Bonus: $6M
2023 Cap Hit: $10M
Niners trade Jimmy for Darnold and pick up $13M of cap space this year which get's rolled over into next year. Worst case they can cut Darnold next year and would only be on the hook for his $6M pro rated bonus.
You lost me at sign Darnold to an extension
Let's do it and leave that part out..

Well you have to, unless you want to pay 20mil cap hit for a backup. Extending him for a year you lower that hit by a lot, and he would probably be a backup than what we have right now.
But like stairway said, Panthers aren't that dumb.

Add a swap on Jimmie Ward for Jeremy Chinn and you got a deal.

Link? Let's hear when they said Trey is the starter this year. I've provided many quotes that prove you wrong as always. If Trey was the starter they'd say so.
The guy is 3 first round picks and they can't even back him as starter. Because he is not yet.

Well you're wrong. He's being his usual triggered passive aggressive self saying that we drafted Trey to sign Jimmy. When in reality there is a single year left on Jimmy's contract. After one year there is no obligation but this year we keep Jimmy(if we don't get a trade) and let them compete. It's like peewee football knowledge and Lynch, Shanny, York have all said it's a possibility but the Jimmy victims refuse to listen.
Great response though as always Gore Jr

Any scenario where we are paying Darnold for multiple seasons is an automatic L. Dude would be getting checks to be 3rd string to Suds. Take the one year hit which is less than JGs hit and be done with it.

Been wrong about what? I said we were gonna draft his replacement last year and that Jimmy would be traded this year. I guess I was wrong about the trade since nobody wants him.

You all(Jimmy Victims) say Trey is the starter. He has not even remotely been named the starter despite 3 first round picks. Instead of backing Trey and making him the face, they(the ENTIRE front office) have done nothing more than put him on the back burner and consistently say Jimmy could be coming back. Now that's confidence... Now I think it's clear Trey is the future but unlike Jimmy Victims inability to comprehend, a soon to be 22 year old guy with 10 quarters may need some time like a vast vast vast majority of 22 year olds compared to a 9 year vet.
It's such a simple concept if you're not afraid of Jimmy in a competition. Again we should welcome competition not be afraid of Jimmy. Especially if he's as bad as you say and nobody wants him. It's clear he's better than you say and you are just scared.
Remember...you'd rather go 0-17 with Trey and stuck up for poster who said that so it's obvious you have too many vested feelings of Jimmy. Me... I really don't care who starts. I want to win. If Jimmy is gone tomorrow I won't cry. If he starts I won't cry. If he's backup I won't cry. I just wanna win and so do the other other 52 guys. Jimmy or Trey.

What competition? Jimmy won't begin throwing until sometime toward the end of July. Trey will be getting all the 1st team reps. Jimmy has had some poor training camps from reports I have read from past off seasons. So not only will he be behind getting live reps, he will have to compete with someone who is more physically gifted and by all reports working his tail off to be ready to take over this season. Whatever competition you think there may be. Jimmy doesn't stand a chance.

So why not name Trey the starter and hand him the keys to the franchise like Mac, Fields, Lawrence, Wilson and that Texans scrub? Why keep the doors open for Jimmy? Every other player in the draft has the teams full support next year besides... .. .
