At this point yes. He will be a lot cheaper and wont cost a pick. With Baker and Nick out there nobody is trading for Jimmy. Definitely since essentially everyone is set with their QB. Nick will be cheap. Baker with be cheap pick wise.

There is 0 point in keeping Jimmy past when he can pass his physical unless you are willing to let him compete for the starting job. Don't wait for someone to get injured because they will most likely choose Baker bc he wont cost much.

I really don't see Jimmy starting anywhere week 1 this year unless he is cut by training camp. If the 49ers have any kind of respect for Jimmy they would cut him asap. Playing it out further is a bad look for them bc they are screwing him over. Bc players/agents see what goes on. Unless they are giving him a chance to compete and not a bogus one

They could wait until a starter goes down early and it would an horrible news but that starter could Lance…in this case I would be pretty « happy » that JG is still there

This is a business. You don't make decisions that could cost you a decent comp pick or better by doing something that is nice for a player. There is no reason to cut him as soon as he gets healthy, might as well wait until after TC in the event someone gets injured(long shot yes). We aren't signing some lucrative free agent now. Regardless, Jimmy already incurred Bad Karma for intentional late surgery. He will be playing for a bad team traded or cut, his own decision to delay everyone and himself, the inevitable of being dumped, his 26M+ best used else where.

If we wanted Matthieu or if he wanted us Jimmy's contract wouldn't stop us from signing him. Same as Deebo or anyone else. Jimmy gone would make things easier but it is stopping nothing.
