If it's for $25 million, then yea. If he's willing to take a pay cut down to the vet minimum and understands his role is to backup Lance and Sudfeld, then it's a little more palatable. I'd still prefer to keep Purdy over Jimmy and I hope the coaching staff gives Purdy a legitimate shot to unseat Jimmy as the 3rd QB.

Jimmy would not be the 3rd QB. I'd love to keep him for what Sudfeld is making. He'd likely be the best backup in the league and already has a firm grasp of the offense. If Kyle plans on running Trey as much as he did in AZ, we need a better insurance policy than Sudfeld.

Jimmy has zero incentive to take a paycut. Players don't just take less money when they are under contract. They need a reason to do so, like an extension....which he won't get here.

I still put it at 0% he is on the team next year.

0% chance he agrees to take a pay cut. He literally said "last year was strange and I wouldn't wish that on anyone " he doesn't want to be here. Noway he takes a pay cut to stay. Only way he stays is for the entire contract.

Maybe a little. However, chances of Jimmy keeping the job all season (if the job is handed to him) are very slim. He will either lose it due to poor play like what almost happened after the Cotls game or due to injury which is even more likely.

a little??? we were told.. we can not move him cuz of the shoulder.... when the summer and pre season comes and goes and jimmy along with his 27 million dollar anchor around our neck is still here.. then what is the excuse... a Little???? people should be livid that WHOEVER let this happen.. and do not set there and tell me.. well all gms do this.. well lots of teams have 27 million dollar backup qbs... a little??? qb drama... possible divided locker room.. oh i know rose colored homers refuse to think we could have a divided locker room with lord lynch and jesus kyle presiding over things.. but we are not above that stuff.. a little???? not one good thing can come from jimmy still being on this team this year.. none.. zero.. nothing

Damn dude. You are already losing your s**t over it. I have my opinion just like everyone else. Never do I believe that I know more about the business and operations than those who are actuallly running it. We are a competitive team that is smart with the cap. As a fan, I cannot ask for much more than that.

I honestly believe that they will cut Jimmy if no trade is made after he clears medical. I believe they just don't want to lose any of that 27 million because they have 2 huge extensions and a handful of rookies to sign. But I don't mind going into fantasy land and discussing Jimmy's potential 1 more season with the team. IMO, the only way he stays on this team and keeps that 27 million is if the job is just handed to him.

Also another thing that isn't really being discussed in all of this is Trey Lance. He is still an unknown at this point. Perhaps they feel more comfortable holding onto Jimmy until they are fully confident in Trey. Trey can put all of their concerns aside if he comes into training camp and looks the part. No harm in that.

Four of those five td's were Jimmy's, that shanny cleverly redirected to a rookie after Jimmy led the offense to the red zone. I'm sure that will come up in restructuring talks with Jimmy, if it hasn't already.

Just an out right lie.

Two of the passing Tds came against the Seahawks when Trey started the 2nd half for an injured again Jimmy, and another 2 came during his start against Houston.

smart teams. well run teams. teams that are smart with a cap do not keep a 27 million dollar back up qb...... the reason we got trey so was in theory.. we could be more than just competitive. keeping jimmy invites un needed drama in this team.. and if your theory is right that trey is not ready or not the guy they thought he was.. well. then we have a much bigger problem on our team and lynch and kyle will then get fired in my opinion. sad that in many circles here.. we have went from WIN NOW to being happy with competitive

And for the record, I appreciate what Jimmy was able to do here. He was able to be a massive improvement over every QB in the Shanahan era and stabilized the position. But its been time to try to improve, which is what we did when we drafted Lance.

This is a very reasonable post. Some guys on here fail to see what he brought here, and that's disappointing.

He disappeared after I called him out on it on the previous page.

All the above yet you still feel the need to bash the guy even to this day.

Why? What's the obsession?

Hearing you, and not sure about the obsession either. To me, for some posters and what they continue to throw up in this thread, it's very revealing in a few ways.

Yes, it would have been incredible if he could have done more to help to pull out that SB and get #6 for this franchise. And then, done more to get past the Rams last year (and after that, helped to win last year's SB - I think that team would have handled the Bengals again). Still makes me as pissed as anyone in thinking about all of it.

I have as high expectations for the QB position and for this franchise as any fellow fan in having seen (and remembering clearly) the excellence in bringing home five SBs without a loss. That said, I can also appreciate the mostly very good QB play from Garoppolo during his time here in helping this team get back to winning, winning 35 of the 51 games he started (yes, helping - but also playing a key part many times at the most position in sports over those 51 games).

Along the way, he also helped this team put up 27 ppg., win nine games with late-game key drives, and go 4-2 in the playoffs (many teams don't have ANY recent playoff victories...the Steelers, maybe the top all-time NFL franchise, haven't won a playoff game since 2016).

It's comical to see some of these posts trying so hard to tear Garoppolo down and pick apart plays/missed opportunities here and there. Yes, his streaky play at times was frustrating...his occasional bad decision making/TOs had me screaming at the TV...yes, all the injuries were frustrating...and again, coming up short in the SB & NFCCG. Yet for some posters in here and their football takes pertaining to Garoppolo as an NFL QB...let's just say it tells me all I need to know and it's not worth the time of day.

In going forward, just have to hope Lance is that guy to lead the team and not just be better than Garoppolo but help get this franchise over the hump in winning more SBs.

My take on it has always been that sports, in general, seem to attract some pretty fringe personalities whose identities become way too tied up with their team. It's like the YouTube clips you see of guys in their man caves with their team caps and jerseys on and every inch of available wall space covered in memorabilia of whatever team they happen to follow ranting about some loss or draft pick they didn't like or going on about this that or the other thing. Their primary focus in life seems to be the desire to see their team win Championships.. Because of the success the 49ers had for so many years a lot of "fans" have determined that winning Super Bowls is now some kind of birthright and when the 49ers are winners, well then by extension that must mean that they are winners too. So Jimmy becomes an easy scapegoat because he "lost" them their Super Bowls and denied them their validation. Not saying that applies to everyone in here but it is certainly a factor. It seems that there are some people who just like to listen to themselves talk and are so in love with their own opinions that there isn't any room for anyone else's so it becomes a constant parade of posts to "prove" that they are right. At the end of the day it's just a game, a modest diversion from the rigors of everyday life, and when I joined this forum I thought it might be a nice outlet to talk about a team I have followed since I was a kid, Sadly, that's not how it has turned out.

I wouldn't panic of the $27m as backup qb.. he was signed in early 2018 to that deal a lot has changed since then.. for all his faults if the D pitches a shutout for 2 quarters we win a SB ring maybe 2 SB rings..

The situation will resolve itself. Gonna be TL and Suds with Brock on PS...

Why you putting words in my mouth?

Nothing in the NFL is guaranteed. I like the conservative approach rather than sell the future to go all out and try to win it now approach. The one approach is a gamble and not sustainable. The other approach gives us long term competitiveness and a chance at competing for multiple SB's.

Possibly the greatest back to back posts of all time.

he loses the super bowl.. almost loses the rams game and packers game and loses a ten point lead vs the rams.. we had to win in spite of jimmy at the end last year.the defense is not to blame for those losses in my opinion. the d and deebo are the reasons we won. seen enough from jimmy. the little train who almost could but at the end of the day is unable to do so. if brock ends up number two. i will not roll out the shock and awe.... i really wanted his tight end team mate kolar
