We can upgrade our team in other ways though,....literally every single day.

Looks like that gives us the freedom to get rid of a good quarterback the very moment it saves us extra money.

And then this one...lol...

My confidence is his only two healthy seasons he's gotten us to the NFCC or SB. My confidence is his third leading winning %. My confidence is his undeniable record to help the team win.

Now what leads you to believe he can't do it again? Fairy tales...

If Jimmy "got us to" the NFCCG and the SB, then so did the equipment manager.

Plus boom box guy

Once they moved up for a QB in the draft, Jimmy was playing on borrowed time. One of the greatest assets in having a starting QB on a rookie contract is the money you can invest around him….they've already wasted a yr of that contract and here you are trying to burn another yr AND pay an avg QB $27M in FGTD cash lol.

You think Jimmy is gonna win us a super bowl? Honestly? He's been dreadful in the playoffs and has had his chances….if SF can find a trade partner he's gone and that's a fact. The league played musical chairs with starting QBs this off season and we couldn't even get a sniff for him….The only reason he's still on the team is because they can't move him right now. Period.

He is the heir apparent to Jimmy Garoppolo, who remains atop the team's depth chart. And York said he is fine if Garoppolo remains as coach Kyle Shanahan's starter for a year — or even two.

"We've talked about this internally," York said on 49ers Talk. "If we're in a situation where Jimmy goes out and takes us to a Super Bowl again and has an MVP-caliber season, and does it again, there are worse dilemmas to be in. And Jimmy certainly has the ability to do that."

"If he doesn't play until he's 23, but he's got a 15-plus year career …" York said of Lance. "There were rumors about a guy, and obviously Kyle talked about trading for Aaron. How long did Aaron sit? Two or three years before he played? And, again, I want to make sure that we do everything we can to make sure that position is the best it can possibly be in the NFL."

link

The FO has been more than ready to let him sit for 2 seasons. Sure he didn't have the best season last year but he was one or two plays away from the SB. Yes I think we can win a SB with Jimmy but I understand he has some deficiencies that a better QB could mask. Is a 22 year old Trey that? Maybe but not many 22 years old go out and catch the NFL on fire.

Gonna be hilarious when Lance is starting and your nowhere to be found.

fwiw you can still wear your Jimmy jersey even if he's not starting it's okay man.

I'll be here rooting for Lance 100%. I'll give Lance the same respect I give Jimmy and fight the good fight against those who will needlessly try to bring him down. I've repeatedly said I want Lance to start as I know what Jimmy is. A good, sometimes great, other times down right infuriating QB. Tret has a chance to be a Super Star. Now will he?

I'm not going to pretend to know until he actually does something.

No Jimmy jersey btw. Just Brent Jones, Alex, and Willis.
Now you're lying. 100% rooting for Lance lol. You're love for jimmy is mentally blocking all of your common sense. Trey is the starter

You may not hate Trey but you certainly have no confidence in him.

I have plenty of confidence in him I simply understand he's a barely 22 year old kid with little college and professional experience. Just because I don't feel we need to impatiently force him out there, doesn't mean I have no confidence in his future.

I have consistently said I would rather Trey start as Jimmy is a "good, sometimes great, other times infuriating QB" while Trey has a ceiling of greatness. I also understand that Trey may need to season a little but more.

This team is Super Bowl caliber right now. Jimmy has gotten us there but hasn't finished with his chances. I feel he can get us there again. Meanwhile Trey is going to have good days and bad days and I feel it's unfair to expect a deep playoff run for a 22 year old. You say that's a lack of confidence, I think it's reality. My expectations with Jimmy are SB or bust. My expectations with Trey aren't. Again, putting those expectations on a 22 year old 2nd year guy is a lot.

Now that's not saying Trey can't get us to the promised land this season but I think Jimmy does a lot more than most here give him credit for. By some of your guy's standards it's Super Bowl or bust for Trey when you guys say Jimmy did as much as the equipment manager. If Jimmy and the equipment manager had the same impact then these guys are saying if we don't make a Super Bowl with Trey than he is worse than an equipment manager. I definitely disagree with those guys.

I've said this 1000 times. I had no issue with anyone doubting Jimmy. It's the people who call him trash and spewed pure hate that made no sense to me. He's a 49er.

Geez, this thread is tiresome. The same 10 or 15 people talking the same s**t over and over and over and over again. It just never stops. The sad thing is that when the situation with Jimmy is finally resolved these same people will follow hm to whatever new thread he may end up in so that they can keep talking s**t him about over there, just like with the Alex Smith when he went to KC. And even then they'll still have the gall to say that "they're not the ones" who are obsessed with Jimmy it's all of the guys who could just appreciate him for what he was and what he brought to the team, and they'll do it under the guise of, "oh, we just like to talk football". Spare me.

And even then they'll still have the gall to say that "they're not the ones" who are obsessed with Jimmy it's all of the guys who could just appreciate him for what he was and what he brought to the team, and they'll do it under the guise of, "oh, we just like to talk football". Spare me.

Yes. Thanks for not denying that you only care about Jimmy being gone nothing more. Respect.

My confidence is his only two healthy seasons he's gotten us to the NFCC or SB. My confidence is his third leading winning %. My confidence is his undeniable record to help the team win.

Now what leads you to believe he can't do it again? Fairy tales...

I have been nothing but complimentary towards Trey. I don't get why one has to hate one to like the other. I simply don't. I like them both. Crazy concept for a fan, eh?

Jimmy also has good days and bad days. I don't look at it as a SB or bust with Trey or Jimmy. We were lucky to even be in the playoffs let alone be playing in the NFCCG last season. That was for 3 reasons. 1)The secondary gave up big plays at the absolute worst times. 2)The offense left a lot to be desired in many games inspite of having plenty of firepower. We really relied on one guy for long stretches to create offense. Especially in the playoffs. 3)The special teams were absolutely atrocious at times.

So while you see this team as a SB caliber team, I see them as a team that has the potential to make the playoffs as a wildcard again but not good enough to win a SB. I have 0 confidence in Jimmy winning a SB. Why? Because inspite of his top 10 efficiency numbers during the regular season, his playoff numbers are

Do we let JG have the Bears game since he has ownage?

If they were smart, which they aren't, they would let JG start. I just rewatched this game ... Jimmy rushed for 2 tds, the Bears have never beaten him and it's his hometown. Lance could beat the Bears, but it's not as sure a thing. Fields had a nice game against the 49ers, and next year he'll be better.

I find it very difficult to believe what I keep hearing, the 49ers are going to trust the season to Trey Lance. That's very risky, rookies start for bad teams ... not good ones like the 49ers. I don't think that Lance will win the close games, I don't think he'll make it to the post season, but at least you won't have Jimmy Garoppolo to kick around anymore.

You are not allowed to have this opinion in here. How dare you.

LOL... did someone just posted MORE negative things about KS10?

OR did someone just tried confirming that The Best Mind In Football wont have anyone else to point to once Grappy's gone... wait wait.. the rest of team still under the HC..

At some point, we need to see what Lance can do. If we fail to reach the playoffs this season with Lance at the helm, it's fair to say Kyle and Lynch messed up big time.

That's ludicrous. Most QBs don't really figure it out until year three or four. It's possible Lance struggles in year 2 and makes All Pro in year six. No reasonable person will get nervous about Trey until year three or four.

What Qbs are you referring too? Most young Qbs look good from the get go these days, especially ones that are drafted by talented teams. The only ones who struggle, are the one's drafted by bad teams. We replaced Jimmy to move forwards, not to go backwards.

After ONE YEAR of starting?

2021: Lawrence, Fields, Wilson, all sucked, still on the team.
2020: Tua, Love, both still on their team.
2019: Daniel Jones, sucked the whole time, still on the team. Haskins, our first 1st round QB to be moved (RIP). Lock, our first 2nd round QB to be moved. So ALL these guys lasted THREE YEARS.
2018: Rosen, the very first QB to fit this idea that QBs shouldn't be given three years. He got one. But Darnold got three years. Mayfield got four.
2017: Trubisky got four years. Mahomes and Watson are All Pros.
2016: Goff was drafted on a decent team. Lasted six seasons. Wentz five season, and the Eagles were 7-9 the year before he was drafted, so it's not like they were terrible.
2015: Winston and Mariota lasted several years on their teams (five for Winston, five for Mariota).

Now, it's true, these guys mostly went to bad teams, but not necessarily bad offenses. Moreover, the ones who did go to good teams are Love, Mahomes, and Allen. And that's it. Two of those three are going to the Hall of Fame unless some unforeseen events take place.

So you have THREE rookie QBs on good teams. Three. One of whom has done nothing but is still on the team. And Allen SUCKED his first two years starting, which already undermines your argument.

It's. Ludicrous. To. Expect. A. Rookie. QB. To. Dominate. His. Very. First. Year. Starting.

Only guys who are likely heading to the Hall of Fame do that.
