It's not guaranteed. Just talk to his agent and negotiate what you will pay him. Jimmy would be crazy not to want to go play there.

9ers shouldn't pick up a penny.

Unless a 2nd rd pick or higher we be stupid to take on his salary in any way.

Jimmy has to negotiate a salary reduction with the Browns. Niners should not have to pick up any portion of anything.

If thats the case they will just wait till he is free agent or offer us basically nothing.

Quite possible, but they probably want him in as soon as possible. Are they going to wait until September to bring him in?

Oh look what I wondered onto … a Jimmy Who thread. I've been a longtime poster on other niners boards and watched this one. Had to finally sign up & common on this one because we have what looks like will be a franchise QB who can possibly win a SB. The wife and I attended our last one as well as the NFCCG prior to it and I lost all confidence in Jimmy Who as did the front office. I see a bright future ahead of us!! A dynasty with the talent on both sides of this team. Just hope Gould can hold up another 2-3 years.

Welcome!

Thanks!
Lets just pay the Browns to take him off our hands. Sad that its come to this, but the league sees him as worthless. It is a better scenario than him going to the Seahawks and potentially beating us this season with some flukey wins

Garoppolo is worthless yet if he goes to the Seahawks the 49ers should be terrified? Choose a lane already.

What other Niner boards? Didn't know of any significant ones that weren't independent other than this one
In a trade scenario with the browns we hold the advantage. No need for us to pay his salary. Browns just need to give us something to secure his services and not have to compete with the Seahawks in the open market.

Unless there is a scenario in which we could buy a draft pick.

This. I could see the Niners pitching in some $$$ to increase the return from the Browns, but they used up a lot of future draft capitol on the Watson deal.

Also, the Browns are probably hoping to roll their surplus cap space from this year over to next year.

I see where you're coming from, but the only thing the Browns have to do is wait till 30 Aug. They may be the only team that is offering a clear cut path to a starting job.

It seems like the only thing the Browns are gaining is that they don't have to compete with other teams if they do a trade.

The product on the field for one, but its mainly from the reports that he frequently ghosted the team (coaches, FO, and players) during the offseason. If you're paying someone $25 million a year, you'd expect them to be a little more dedicated than a seasonal mall Santa.
