Just a quick question. I know JimmyG counts 25m against the cap this year, but aside from creating drama by remaining on the roster, how does his salary affect us ?

Is there anyone on this team being affected by his salary ? Again, but the drama part on the side. Would you rather cut ties with him to save 25m (which we're not going to use anyways) and have him sign with Seattle or LA (yes McVay is stupid enough to sign him as a backup) and become a potential thorn in our ass for years to come, or would you keep him as number 3 (however expensive it may be because as we said it doesn't affect any of our signings this year) just in case Trey has an injury (God for forbid) and Nate isn't up to par ?

This is a SB caliber roster. I just think having Jimmy around one more year bc we couldn't get anything for him just bolsters the team and adds to the depth. Makes it easier for us fans to watch Trey grow as a starter knowing that in case he goes down our season isn't necessarily lost. Plus it punishes Jimmy for f**king with us by going for surgery last second and wiping out any potential offers we could've had for a trade. Let him sit in the 3 spot and collect rust, even though it'll cost us 25m. Just consider it as paying him to not play for a division or conference rival. Next year his value will depreciate even more and he can sign with whatever cellar dweller wants him.

just a thought…

They will carry him till the 53 cut. It was already stated. People wanting him cut now are doing it for personal reasons not any logical football decisions.

This.

There's the ability to rollover cap savings to future years to help with future signings (i.e. Bosa next offseason).
The one and only reason to cut him now is if he was making a public fuss. Otherwise, literally no reason

Just take it to the 30th, who knows what might happen in the league, in the next 12 days.

He technically can be cut til 9/10 afternoon, but needs to be on the 53 man obviously.
Seattle better watch out. He's gonna get those beautiful ladies knocked up. If I'm jimmy G that's where I'm goin

Seattle fans during this preseason game have signs pleading for Jimmy G lol. Never thought I'd see Seattle fans doing that

Having Gino Smith and Drew Lock would do that to you.

Seattle will be lucky to win 7 games this year. They will create a new suck measurement on the sucking scale.

Apparently, at least according to some fans, it was all a part of this highly secretive poker game John Lynch had with the NFL world.

Everybody knew Jimmy G was injured and recovering from shoulder surgery to repair the injury, but sneaky John Lynch played it too close to the vest and lost, I guess.

Couldn't sneak it by other teams that Jimmy G would not have been able to pass a physical until he recovered and rehabilitated his shoulder. What a loser.

I have said this from the jump (and yes I realize its an opinion), but I believe the injury/surgery in and of itself was not the reason teams were apprehensive about trading for Jimmy.

Teams werent willing to trade for him because of his injury history and skillset, not this particular injury that every medical professional who commented on it agreed would be fully recovered from and/or even stronger post surgery. If Russell Wilson had this surgery in the offseason, you think teams wouldnt have been lining up to try to trade for him even with a shortened offseason due to rehab? Of course they would have.

So really, the issue is that Jimmy is unreliable and cant stay on the field...combined with his actual skillset. Teams werent willing to trade for him and take the chance that he can stay healthy. A 3 month injury where he was expected to be fully recovered from isnt the reason teams stayed away. Thats just an excuse IMO.

Honestly you forgot the most important reason of all:

Unused cap space rolls over into the next season. 25 million could be used to make the team better next year.
11 days till cut

And that's the most important thing. Would still like to get something for him if possible. Hold onto to him as long as we can and then cut our losses if needed.
