Edit- let me remind you that Trey PROVED last year he was a "more realistic option" than CJ Beathard was in 2017, but it took FIVE games for Shanahan to bench Hoyer—one more than the four first claimed in the comment I responded to, and three less than the 3-5 start Jimmy had.

Obviously, I base that on Kyle's judgement. What else? He's the one who decided trey wasn't ready for prime time, and went with Jimmy. Trey was 21. Come on.
Obviously what, Kyle said it was Jimmy's year and that was it. He gave Jimmy is last chance. Now it's over

Huh? I mean they could've kept Sudfield over Purdy. You think the only reason they kept Purdy over Sudfield was because we were able to have Jimmy as the backup?

Not really, from performance and salary cap standpoint Purdy was the better business decision.

Who has $2 million dollar back up as the #3 QB.

But we're paying him anyway so it makes sense to keep him if they thought he was the better QB.

If Jimmy gets traded then Sudfield is back to being #2 and when Jimmy leaves in the off-season Sudfield has the head start on being the #2 next year.

it only makes sense to cut Sudfield if they thought Purdy was the better QB.

I thought that was obvious but I should know better on this board

Kyle said they were one game away from putting in Trey (and I believe he said they may have done it earlier if Trey hadn't got hurt).

Only because Sudfeld has more knowledge of the offense. Purdy played well in the pre season but it was the pre season. Maybe Purdy learned the entire playbook in one off season like Trey did but I have heard no reports of it as of yet. Its obvious they like Purdy. But reason tells me that it is not wise to go into the season without a veteran in the QB room. Not a team that is very close to being SB contenders anyway.

At a certain point this aspect becomes overrated. We know who Sudfeld is. He's never going to be any better than a fringe #2 QB. There's no upside to keeping him around.

Sure he knows the offense, but if you have to play him, your season is over anyways so you might as well stick with the rookie who at least offers some modest upside.

They're off the hook for $1 million sense he was signed to Detroit. Again, not a good business move either way. But maybe they also thought they could sign him back to the PS.

Anyway you slice it they were not gonna have a $2 mil third string QB. They're dumb asses who gave Sudfeld the contract too. I still have no clue why.

Its not really worth arguing about. Like I said in my last post, in case you missed it. It doesn't really mean much at this point. I am happy with the QB room as it stands today.

Pretty sure Purdy knows the offense. Sudfeld only has a bit more of an advantage there, having played more snaps and seen more practical application of the offense against live defenses.

Maybe if I put it in big, bold letters.

What is it that makes people not understand that you can like Jimmy the cheap backup but not the overpaid starter?

kyle didnt put trey in the playoffs where jimmy played like ass with his bun right arm. That speaks for itself. Trey was 2 years away

Ya the situation went from untenable to great when he restructured. It immediately improves our chances at winning the SB this year.

Now it could have a deleterious effect on Lance, which I doubt, but that would also indicate he's not the FQB we hope he is.

I think the only negative thing left to say (if I could go into their heads) is that Jimmy just being "around" puts unnecessary pressure on Lance. I also think Kyle, Jimmy, and Lance have said enough to squash that debate and that Lance and Jimmy both know their roles moving forward.

If this was a highschool or college team I would be worried about Lance's confidence, but I think he is a young man that knows Kyle and this team has his back. That includes Jimmy. He will be fine
