Now you've done it
I'm honestly curious. People to emotionally invested?
This coming from a guy who had a countdown till Jimmy was cut. Counting the days of Jimmy being a back up. lol
Exactly my point. How do you not understand the situation changed. Does a countdown hurt so bad you can't see the 20 M difference?
Um what!! Lol
Oh so you're trolling people then.
I was excited he was getting cut. He isn't worth 27 M. When he resigned I was happy he is worth riding the bench at 8ish M. I was asked by many including you I believe why the count down stopped. Seemed odd to continue but many seemed to miss it. Unless you all was trolling?
I don't think we need a countup of how many days he's a backup.
I didn't either. People demanded it.
I think you got tricked. No one cares to know the exact number of days he's been a backup. But if you do continue, why not include the days he was backing up Brady?
Who the f**k cares about the Patriots?
I do that's his origin story and it's how he obtained his 99 QB sneak rating
How many days was he backup there? I can definitely add to the count up if it helps.
Do you have a personal hatred for this guy or is it strictly football?
I'm glad hes here in the correct roll.
Role or roll. I guess correct spelling and grammar doesn't matter to you since facts don't either.

Just wanted to put my final thoughts about Jimmy coming back before the season starts.
From my understanding the conversation this offseason was about, 1. Trading Jimmy G 2. Letting Jimmy come back at his 27m cap hit. 3. Cutting him outright. I don't remember many people, if any, assuming Jimmy would take a deal less than the 7m it would have costed us to cut him early. I remember someone specifically being called out for suggesting that option, as it was perceived to be an inditement on Jimmy the player because many assumed he would receive more money on his new team, but in the end a pay cut and remaining with his former/current team was the best option for everyone. If I'm wrong that no one predicted it, that's my mistake, I just don't remember seeing it. And for anyone who did predict that, I tip my hat to you.
Before the offseason I predicted that Jimmy would be one of the least valued QBs on the market, even though I considered him the best QB on the market. My reasoning was mainly due to his contract, the fact that a team would have to trade for him(as opposed to a FA), his injury history, timing in the offseason, system fits, and lastly, quality of play. I don't assume that Jimmy's injury didn't affect his ability to be traded, I just know that as of right now, we have no concrete evidence that it did and there's all those other variables I mentioned that teams potentially valued differently. Some teams might have loved him as a player but not the injuries, and some teams may have been okay with the injury but not the contract.
Jimmy coming back at a backup pay scale is something I didn't think was possible, and frankly, neither did Kyle or John Lynch for that matter if you listen to their recent press conference.
I cringe at the members of the media who says that Jimmy being back on the 49ers will have negative impact on the locker room. Any added pressure that Trey will potentially have with a winning QB behind him, will IMO be negated due to the positive things that Jimmy brings to this 2022 squad. I think Jimmy can help Trey a lot at practice, and more importantly, in game and situational coaching. For a young player who's still learning, this could be a key factor in him being successful early in his career.
I think it's clear that the positives outweigh the negatives in this situation. Where as I didn't see nearly as many positives with keeping Jimmy at 27m. There's no doubt that Trey could become injured this season, as he was in limited time last year, so having a proven and capable backup is potentially a huge deal.
I don't really see a scenario this season in which Lance is playing well and we're still losing a ton of games. For that reason, I hope we never see Jimmy play at all this year, because that would mean Trey is winning and playing at a high enough level that we can build off of for many years to come.
I'm rooting for Jimmy to get a shot as a starter next season. He's always been great for the locker room and he's a good QB. Some aspects of his game will be hard for Trey to match, others not, but I appreciate what he was able to do for this team and wish him success this year and beyond.
I'm 30 years old and I've been a 49ers fan before I could walk. While most kids were watching Disney movies, I was watching the 88 and 89 49ers season highlights on repeat. I was obsessed with the lore of the 49ers and football in general at a very young age. The only thing I've ever wanted is to see my team win a super bowl. So whether that's with Trey, or Jimmy, or Brock Purdy, I really don't care. I just want to see it happen before I'm gone. Which is why the constant back and forth between fans is so silly to me. If you think for one second I will be upset if Jimmy wins us a super bowl, you clearly don't know me and that goes for a lot of fans. Jimmy makes us better, he gives us a better chance to win it all, and all 49ers fans should be excited he's back given his contract.

Part of me wants to bring constant negativity and stupid arguments to the Trey thread like you guys did here strictly just to show how annoying being negative about everything, every... single...day was/is. I won't do that because it's annoying as hell and at the end of the day it's not Treys or others posters fault theres a faction of the fans that go to any length to just be negative every....single...day...and make threads toxic. Calling people Jimmy Stans and Jimmy Cult for supporting the starting QB for example. It far more than simply disliking Jimmy.
You guys were negative after wins, after playoff wins, after everything. Again, not liking Jimmy is fine but the constant negativity and pushing of stupid conspiracies like Lynch was lying when talking about Jimmy is overboard. It really ruins a thread.
For real. OT win against SB appearing Bengals....negativity, OT win over the SB champ Rams, negativity. No matter what win it was, all 13 of them, there was such constant negativity that was always, "justified".

There's going to be negativity with Lance every week as well. Your gonna have your random new posters saying the starting QB sucks all year. You can either divulge into the constant back and forth labeling and name calling or try to have football conversations. I'm seriously done with the former.
I promise you I'll be asking around, trying to find as much negative film posted on YouTube and Twitter, about Trey.
Negative plays are the most talked or rememberable because they're the most controversial. Everyone has a different opinion of who's fault it was on negative plays. Everyone agrees when Trey Lance throws an 80 yard bomb it's a good play, so a conversation about that play is just everyone agreeing, right?
When I come to a forum, I want to talk about the stuff we don't agree on. Sometimes you learn something and that's all I care about.
The only thing that can hinder that is people shaming others for discussing film. Something that happened quite often last season for Jimmy.

I'll be here for the film discussion, well not in this thread but on the forum. Just ignore any members that consider film review stupid. If someone thinks that a win makes everything all good and that film review is nitpicking/hating/pointless, that's okay, just discuss with posters that enjoy engaging in the same topics. It's easy to ignore, you don't have to do anything.

Can't take the negativity too seriously after last year in the Shanahan thread we had users calling for Kyle to be replaced midseason. Boy were they wrong.
I was pro Jimmy when he was the starter, but also recognized his flaws and agreed with the move to Trey. Now I'm 100 percent behind Trey. In my eyes fans should hope for the success of the starter regardless of who they think should be the starter.

And you base that on what?
Edit- let me remind you that Trey PROVED last year he was a "more realistic option" than CJ Beathard was in 2017, but it took FIVE games for Shanahan to bench Hoyer—one more than the four first claimed in the comment I responded to, and three less than the 3-5 start Jimmy had.
Obviously, I base that on Kyle's judgement. What else? He's the one who decided trey wasn't ready for prime time, and went with Jimmy. Trey was 21. Come on.
Kyle said they were one game away from putting in Trey (and I believe he said they may have done it earlier if Trey hadn't got hurt).
kyle didnt put trey in the playoffs where jimmy played like ass with his bun right arm. That speaks for itself. Trey was 2 years away
Uh, no. It was too late at that time. Jimmy got all the reps the week before. It's the playoffs. You don't change QBs in the playoffs. That would be among the most asinine things possible for a coach to do.

An amazingly simple concept. Although cheap is relative. For a backup he's expensive, but for the quality as a backup he's far beyond what he's being paid.
