He hasn't played badly.
In a second half and four starts he has:
SEA - played well coming in for injured Jimmy.
ARZ - played like a rookie making his first start. Not great, but not bad, either.
HOU - played well, helping team win in order to keep playoffs alive
CHI - played uneven in a rainstorm
SEA - Played well leading a couple scoring drives, injured on 2nd to last play of a 2nd FG drive
That's not playing badly. That's simply too small of a sample size to know how well he's gonna play.
So you take a second shot at what they were planning this year: develop him slowly, and see what he can become when getting some playing time under his belt.
He has been seriously injured in half of his starts and he has to recover from what might be very severe ankle injury.
I wasn't tripping on where he was in his development. I am tripping over him being injury prone and/or damaged goods.
That is contextually misleading. Now if he had gotten injured on a drop back, you know playing quarterback then you could say he was injury prone.
He got injured twice (Counting AZ, 16 runz) while he acting as a FB and trying to run the football. One could argue that his being used improperly put him in a position to get injured, at the very least it elevated those risks.
I know I know this is football, people get hurt, next man up. But you gotta protect something so valuable you sacrificed 3 first rounders on it. Had he dropped back more, he may not be injured.
I read it somewhere that Mike McDaniels turned his QB into Dan Marino and Shanny turned his into a spectator. They aren't lying there.
In the end, of course we all support Jimmy. There is a reason his replacement was drafted though. Cannot forget that. Let's see how he plays.
