Right I never said it wasn't. I'm saying downfield "explosive" isn't Jimmy's thing and more than likely never will be.

in order to get ours, it's all about YAC and execution by everyone on the field. Not just the QB. Jimmy plays his part for sure, I wouldn't say he's doing anything extra special…he does look more confident out there which is awesome to see.

For me it comes back around to people complaining about play calling, when in reality it's the players not executing most of the time…whether it's a poor read, blown block or bad route. It's harder to get those explosives when there's less air yards (I know people hate that term) it's the truth though…the fact that we're so high, shows good execution/play calling imo.

Because it's much harder to get those explosives when it requires everyone blocking properly and getting YAC. When it doesn't work people complain about play calling instead of executing the play. Also we're in the QB thread so yeah we're talking about throwing the ball downfield.

I know it's not a reply to me, but it makes it easier to tie in to the topic. In the spirit of being fair - Jimmy missed a big explosive to Tyler Kroft a few plays later, right before we kick the FG. It was man-cov and we had Kroft open on a wheel route. Jimmy forced it on a double slant to Deebo.

Which is fine. Every QB misses reads and throws. The goal is to make more plays than you miss consistently, and that's what separates the good/great QBs from the rest.

There's been plenty of time in the past and early on in the year where Jimmy didn't make up for his poor play. But over the past couple of weeks he's been good to great, especially against AZ.

If we can get Jimmy to play consistently at this level all season and into the playoffs, I will feel very confident we can win the SB, and he would get a good amount of credit for it.

If you are talking tunnel screens and such you are correct. But the slants, seams and digs etc... not so much.

Also we're in the QB thread so yeah we're talking about throwing the ball downfield.

Dude had more YAC yards then any QB last yr. throwing a slant for 7 yards to Deebo then watching him break 3 tackles for an extra 30 is an explosive…it's also a more on Deebo than anything else.

we saw plenty of screens that required blocking downfield and great after the catch. I would say probably more than most teams.

I'm not s**tting on Jimmy, it's just how the offense is constructed for him. It's what he's better at. As far as throwing the ball downfield, yeah that should matter when we're discussing the QB and who's doing what in regards to the explosives.
