Why does it matter how they look?

Because air yards are dope for highlights, bro.

I really have a hard time believing this is how we'd all actually spend our time together if we were to hang out in real life at a tailgate or something. Lol

This same stupid ass argument was used to denigrate Montana in the 80's. Critics would say he was just "dinking and dunking" and "relying on his playmakers" to succeed. They said Marino and Elway were better QB's, more talented, blah blah blah.

What I find strange though is that there are several Niners fans (allegedly anyway) hating on Jimmy. In Montana's day it was fans of other teams, so the hate made sense.

Jimmy's stats and efficiency speak for themselves. The way his career is viewed will depend on if he can win the Super Bowl or at least stack more playoff wins.

Because you have the most success if you can beat a defense multiple ways. YAC is good, or beating defenses over the top is good. What's better is having both, this isn't rocket science at all.

If all you can do is throw deep/intermediate passes (like Russel Wilson) defenses will focus on that and make you look bad a lot of the time.

If you just rely on YAC, defenses will key in on that...

But overall Jimmy has done at least a decent job at trying to use the whole field this year. He's looking more and more like 2017, and that's good enough. He doesn't need to be Mahomes out there, just enough to keep defenses having to play the whole field at times.

Wait, you really gotten to the point of comparing Jimmy to Joe? SMFH

Analogies are hard.
Here's the way I see it. No Jimmy hater or Jimmy "critic" can argue.

There's only one guy, one player, that, if injured, would 100% ruin any chance at a superbowl. It's not deebo, it's not Trent. It's not kittle, it's not cmc.

It's Jimmy. Plain and simple.
Critics would say he was just "dinking and dunking" and "relying on his playmakers" to succeed.

This is true. The other thing was that the 49ers were a "finese" team and would get beaten up by a "real team" and that 49er fans were wine drinking .... I forget the rest.

The current team is incredibly physical.

So one comment versus thousands of yours in here negative about Jimmy is the same thing? Lol okay, dude.

Did you see the QBR leaderboards since 2016 I posted?

They change the formula when they want to, and have definitely changes it since 2016. Just look at the year to year leaders and you'll see many changes to the stats. They also don't give the actual formula so no one knows how they come up with it. But since it suits your argument, and since you value Sportscenter Top Ten plays and fantasy football over winning football games - by all means, continue to reference it.

Still waiting for that link to "all of the players who laughed at QB rating."

Lol you serious? How long have you been watching football? Plenty of former QBs always mocked QB rating.

Plenty? Should be easy to cite then. I'm 48 years old and have watched, played, and coached football my entire life. You?

Lmao, then you obviously sucked at all the above.

Yet it you coming up with exactly zero examples to back up your claim. Stick to trolling and s**t posting, that's your specialty.

Ya that's definitely mine. Not your anti vax, maga, I have 150 IQ, I coach football, and I spend all day cosplaying as a gatekeep for threads.

Good one man.

A bit harsh, but I never played QB in the NFL, so I'll defer to the experts.
Oh man .. he had Aiyuk wide open deep

There was a similar play left on the field against the Chargers.

I mean, using a baseball analogy here, it kind of feels like Jimmy saw a fastball right down the pipe but took the bunt single instead of swinging for the fences.

Ultimately, it's just one play, and otherwise he's been playing lights out. You'd love for him to hit them all, but at the end of the day, if the overall body of work is as good as its been, I'm happy with it. But I do still hope in the future, this is stuff that Trey will routinely hit and will ultimately become a much superior player.

Because it's much harder to get those explosives when it requires everyone blocking properly and getting YAC. When it doesn't work people complain about play calling instead of executing the play. Also we're in the QB thread so yeah we're talking about throwing the ball downfield.

If you are talking tunnel screens and such you are correct. But the slants, seams and digs etc... not so much.

Also we're in the QB thread so yeah we're talking about throwing the ball downfield.

Dude had more YAC yards then any QB last yr. throwing a slant for 7 yards to Deebo then watching him break 3 tackles for an extra 30 is an explosive…it's also a more on Deebo than anything else.

we saw plenty of screens that required blocking downfield and great after the catch. I would say probably more than most teams.

I'm not s**tting on Jimmy, it's just how the offense is constructed for him. It's what he's better at. As far as throwing the ball downfield, yeah that should matter when we're discussing the QB and who's doing what in regards to the explosives.

This is the same lazy argument that gets trotted out every time this subject comes up. By most accounts given by knowledgeable people, this is the way Kyle's offense is designed, get the ball out of the QB's hands and into the hands of the play makers. That's is probably why there has been such an emphasis on getting guys like Deebo, and Aiyuk and McCaffery. That's why they ended up paying Kittle though they may not have known he would be so good at it when they drafted him.

Jimmy helps execute the offense Kyle is running. You can argue he might run it differently with a more mobile QB with a bigger arm but, for moment, Jimmy is contributing to its current success by virtue of his quick release, pretty good accuracy and the ability to generally put the ball in a spot that allows the receivers to catch it and maximize their ability to get those extra yards. The idea that Jimmy isn't contributing to those yards, or doesn't deserve a measure of credit for them, is simply ignorant.
