Thats the common response that Jimmy haters love to bring up. They were averaging 8 yards a carry. GB knew the run was coming and they still couldn't stop it. Why would they go away from that. The Niners were up 27-0 at halftime, but hey, let's have Jimmy throw it in the second half. You have this scrub in Garoppolo, who made it to a SB and lost. Then you have this guy who is "way better" and "not even close", but he lost a SB as well. Can you really say this team is head and shoulders better with Brock? Jimmy haters love to say he played with an elite defense and run game. Their defense wasn't elite last season? They didn't have one of the best running backs in the game? And Brock has Aiyuk along with Deebo and Kittle. Jimmy had a rookie Deebo and Emmanual Sanders along with Kittle. Who had the better receiving options? Get where I'm going with this.

I'm not here to say Jimmy is great, because he's not. Like you said, he's an average QB, but he was good enough for THIS team. Yes, there is the eye test and Purdy looks better, but if the end results are the same, how much better can Brock be? I'm also not saying Brock is terrible. He's average and good enough on THIS team.

Purdy is better than average. Purdy drove the team down the field and left with the Niners holding on to the lead in OT in the SB. the D was on the field when the game was lost.

Jimmy had multiple chances in various games (NFCCG @ LA, SB) to lead a comeback but failed.

Wait. Didn't Garoppolo drive them down the field for 3 quarters and had the Niners up by 2 scores? See where I'm getting at? The defense gave up 21 points in 8 minutes. In the end, it was a loss for both Purdy and Garoppolo. They stuck with Purdy because he was "the guy to get them that SB win". He's 0-2.

if your evaluation of a football player lies solely with teams win and loss record, what is your evaluation worth really ?

let me use the same line of thinking. Chiefs won more superbowls without Tyreek Hill than with him. This must mean that Hill isnt a better player than Rice or whatever they're trotting out at WR these days (Juju ?)

am I getting it right ?

This logically follows from his statement

His logic is ->"Then you have this guy who is "way better" and "not even close", but he lost a SB as well."

The moment you stop marrying a players evaluation to team win/losses, the moment his argument falls apart

"QB wins" are some of the most inane stats in professional sports.

Just like for any other position, you have to evaluate what does the player A does better than player B, without ever resorting to things such as "wins" or "losses"

Its clear and its been clear since 2022 Brock is a superior player to Jimmy, and I dont see how anyone cannot acknowledge this
Pushes the ball downfield, is a ton more mobile, great improv out of the pocket, good footwork, is an excellent anticipation thrower, progresses well through reads and is generally a good risk/reward guy as opposed to Jimmy who was high risk low reward.

So when you make an upgrade like this, it may not impact wins or losses because football is a team game. If Jimmy makes that throw to Sanders in the SB he isnt a better player magically. The narrative is, but he isnt a better player than what he is right now.

You may arrive at a stupid paradox that because Jimmy made it to the SB in 2019 then no QB is better than him on this team unless they win the SB. Thats just a very superficial way to evaluate football.

you evaluate the guys in the role they are in. JG did well in SB54. he was trending toward MVP. he was like 19/21. then C Jones batted everything down. plays there and Jones batting everything like he had the fly swatter. if you listen to JTO, he says we need to jab Jones at the LOS to get his hands down. what a way to lose the big game. that was a nice ball to Sanders, you want him to get to it, but he's 33 and coming of an achilles. if that's Tyreek it's a touchdown. we all know that.
interesting tweet look how good JG was
