"3 time Pro Bowler" means nothing. He set the franchise record low for yards per completion in his "Pro Bowl" 2002 season despite playing with among the greatest receivers to ever play football.

"Little offensive support outside TO." LOL, no.

Garrison Hearst, Kevan Barlow (back when he was in shape), and Tai Streets were all good players. And he was playing in the WCO.

Had Jerry Rice and Charlie Garner in 2000.

Barlow and Streets were completely mediocre. Hearst never recovered fully from his injury. That offense WAS TO and nothing else.

Jimmy was kept to be a backup. Honestly should've been cut in hindsight and his money used to better the roster in 22. Brock would've been fine as the backup.

i like original JG, which is Jeff Garcia. now to give more context, original JG was benched for Stenstrom and then finally stuck in 2000. we were 6-10 i think, and our D was terrible. it was JG kinda throwing a bunch, and getting some garbage time. as you mention, JG always had TO, and TO in that day was just a complete force of nature. so JG got the stats. now Garoppolo as i call him, he was winning, and when you are winning, you can hand off all game and throw 8 times. stats not quite there as much, and he never had a prime TO or anything like that. maybe kittle, but that's not prime TO. they are different guys.

Winning because of the defense and running game carrying him. Not having to carry the day with his playmaking. Jeff never had nearly the defense Jimmy had ever on the 9ers.

Brock showed this year the hardest thing to do is consistently run the offense when you have to keep scoring. It wasn't always garbage time, it was having to throw to keep them in games, even when winning in 2001 and 2002.

I was a fan since the Montana era watching games. I've see HOF qb play. seen great qb play. I've seen good qb play. I've seen average qb play. I've seen awful qb play.

Jeff was good to great at his peak. Jimmy was average to good at his peak.

i also know Kyle Shanahan O >>>>>> Greg Knapp O.

That was literally all TO and Jeff having to carry the day. Far cry from throwing 8 passes. Or winning without scoring an offensive touchdown.

I missed what sparked this convo, but Jeff was awesome for us after Steve retired. He even took some teams after the 49ers to the playoffs if I can remember correctly, Eagles Browns?

Saying Jimmy was better than Kurt Warner and Jeff Garcia based on completely misguided premises that require you to turn your brain off.

Complete nonsense.

The Barlow stuff is just revisionist history because he fell off after 2003 (likely because he was T.O.'s workout buddy and got lazy after T.O. left). The 49ers extended him after 2003 precisely because he had been impressive for 3 seasons. Broke s**tloads of tackles.

Hearst absolutely fully recovered from his injury. What nonsense. Comeback Player Of the Year and a legitimate Pro Bowler. Still had power. Still juked people. Could still make plays downfield as a receiver, as he did against the Bears. Still picked up the blitz. Still saw things other running backs didn't when it came to making cuts.

Streets was held back by Garcia's inability. Great athlete who would have been a 2nd round pick if he didn't break his leg, and he could actually run routes, unlike Screenbo. Every receiver to play as the 2nd receiver with Garcia averaged under 11 yards per catch with him - Rice in 2000, Stokes in 2001, Streets in 2002. Not a coincidence. Rice went to the Raiders and did 13.7 and 13.2 with Gannon the next 2 years because Gannon played the position correctly.

Garcia was the quintessential backup QB. Even Bill Walsh didn't think he was a long-term solution. That's why he drafted Carmazzi and Rattay after the 1999 season.

Jimmy out-dueled Drew Brees in the Superdome. People suck off Alex for winning at home vs. a terrible Saints defense in the playoffs, but Jimmy went on the road and legitimately out-played Brees in his home stadium when the Saints actually had a good defense.

Go back and look at the defensive rankings and team records of the teams the 49ers were beating during the Garcia era. He was a QB during a transitional time in QBing in the NFL, when Young, Aikman, Marino, Kelly, Elway, and Moon were no longer playing.
Now Tai Streets is better than an All Pro. Awesome. Keeps getting better and better.

Outdueled him because the guy you call overrated can take a 7 yard throw 50+ while two dudes facemask him,
