Saleh has to be pretty stoked at the DL talent he'll have next year...and with his GM getting guys like Day, Douzable, et al. It's all about competition and there's plenty of good young DL talent on the roster. I was trying to figure out who it was chasing Wilson, too. Great opportunity for Day...hoping he makes the most of it.

Yeah, kid certainly flashed. I'm hoping he can give Buckner a breather at 3T or even allow Buckner to be moved around some...or take a load off his double teams by lining up next to him at MY in tandem.
I honestly wanted to see a line-up of something like the following:
LDE: Buckner
NT: D.J. Jones
3T: Sheldon Day
RDE: Solomon Thomas
The left side would be a stone wall and the right side would crash through in run defense.
That would be fun on base!

Saleh has to go.
Next year, this defense should be top 12-15.. especially with proper coaching.

If he is fired this upcoming off season, I would hope they stick with the 4-3. Just a few more players and I think the defense will be solid. But if they pick Fangio back up I'm cool with that too.

Yea I want Fangio back, but I think that's wishful thinking on my part. I just would like an experienced DC who is not learning on the job, and who knows where to play the players in there correct positions with out having to experiment for multiple games trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
And I hate having our D-Lineman running down field covering. That's an automatic mismatch. He's not smarter then the OC's who he's trying to fool, or whatever the hell he's trying to do.

As much as you guys hate it. Sorry, but Saleh ain't going anywhere. We're in full rebuilding mode, including the coaches. Continuity is key to building chemistry with each other. They won't fire Saleh after the first year and start all over again, it'll send a bad message to the players. You can see Saleh is a player's coach and the players dig him. Chemistry is more important than play calling IMO. You can call any play you want but if the players don't have a feel for what their teammates are going to do and don't trust them, then the execution won't be a success.

I don't see Saleh being fired either. Usually, coordinators are fired as scape goats. No one is pointing any fingers or calling for anyone's head over this season's record.

I agree. The defense has already improved drastically from last year. and it will look even better once the offense has more success. Things are building nicely, and a big coaching change can also make things take a step back.

I feel you, I have said from the start that a veteran DC would've helped Shanahan a ton from the start. I wonder what else veteran DC's that run the 4-3 will be available at the end of the season or in the off season? I'm thinking Gregg Williams but I doubt Shanahan or Lynch would be interested. But I also am getting the sense that Saleh won't be fired since he and Shanahan are both friends.

Agreed. I might be alone but considering all the players we lost by injuries or being released, I think Saleh did great for a first year DC. I would give him at least next year as well to see what he can do with all the guys coming back, a year of experience under his belt and more pieces added to a young and promising defense

I like Saleh and think he is an up and coming coach. But Shanahan didn't have much to pick from. A veteran DC would have been nice.
Given we have Saleh, is it possible to keep him as a DC but have a veteran 'advisor' he can lean on? Any precedence for this?
