Makes Mitchell and the remaining 3 years of his deal expendable next offseason.

Doe he play the same position as Mitchell?
DT no? With SThomas potentially moving inside in the future and the potential we're seeing from DJ Jones I don't see why we'd keep a 31 year old NT who's been up and down next year.

Mitchell is the run stuffer who is your prototypical NT. Day and D.J. are more undersized penetrators from the middle but we still need Mitchell in base downs. That's why DJ is inactive now because Day essentially took over his role.

Jones is bigger than Mitchell.

IIRC he played a couple of snaps at the 1 tech next to Buck yesterday on base. He backs up both Buck and Mitchell. So he's capable of playing the NT position if have to. Mitchell has been graded pretty poor on stopping the run this season, not doing what he was signed to do, stuffing the run.

He's been horrible. I hope they cut him.

They need to brainwash Day, Mitchell and/or Jones into thinking Bortles is a pork bun, box of donuts, filett mignon or something like that.

I like Day tho, he's pretty quick for his size...

He was always a much better pass rusher. If they signed him to stuff the run, they misjudged his skillset. We have interior pass rushers, so hes out of his element trying to be the early down/short yardage guy.

He's a nice piece to have going into next year. I think he's absolutely on the 53. Same with Marsh

It will be a competitive camp next year. Even more than this year was. Brick by brick.

i agree. Marsh would be a good backup, not a starter though.

Yup, I think Marsh and Day will be quality backups for us.

Agreed, I hope we address/upgrade the depth at Linebacker. I don't see many here on the zone talking about that.
Whereas at the start of this preseason, we had DeFo as a starter, some of the talent we addded on DL is very likely to be very nice in rotation , maybe a starter from the bunch, i am expecting AA to take off if we sign a great ER, and then we have enough talent for backups also. DL while not a finished product has a lot of depth of guys who can contribute, although NOT be starters or Stars. A lot of positions elsewhere we have NO starters, let alone backups. Like the central 2/3 of our OL. No backups that can block and worse, central 2/3 of our OL cannot block. So guys like Sheldon Day....love it. Then next yr see if he can make the rotation or not. If not, i is he good enough as a backup? That is a lot better than having no starters at OG C and OG. So no complaints from me re: Day. In the next 3 months we find out what he has. On a team that had 4 starters total at beginning of season, and ended up needing just 7 starters (LB, CB, #1WR, and most important, ER),...that is quite a haul for this team.

We definitely have... Roquan smith and a pass rushing SAM like Holland are the hot names.
Thx Jax for Day. I love how the defense swarms to the ball. Saleh got these boys playing like hunting dogs. I like that Eli sticks his nose in there at the end. Stayed home and stuck to his assignment, but wanted to get a lick in as well.

Solid, very solid game. He's going to be a heck of a back-up/rotational guy

Isn't Roquan Smith more of an inside or WILL LB?
