Does Kyle or Lynch think Marsh will blossom into another Von Miller? Of course not, however, if coaching and encouragement can get him to 6-8 sacks this season then to heck with what the fans think of the comment now. Support your player and deal with the heat if you are wrong. That's what a good coach does.

Yea you can encourage him all the way to 6-8 sacks. Or you can trade for/sign/draft a better player

I wish we would've went that route, Ghost...

Actually, I think Kyle's comment on Marsh could also be motivation for another player (or two) to compete...I hope it encourages the others to 6-8 sacks or more as well because we're gonna need all the help we can get off the EDGE
We will somehow have to manufacture a pass rush. We have average talent at best at end.

This is true. If we end up with a successful pass rush, it'll be because we have several guys in the 6-8 sack range.
I guess Lynch is hoping to find a high end pass rusher in the final cuts bin?

considering how many DBs we brought in, it sounds like they just want to beef up the secondary to cover longer so the DL has a few more seconds to get to the QB.

Odds are Marsh is nothing special and Brown does fine, if not better in NE.

This guy is not our savior lol

Belichick got rid of a franchise QB

Thanks BB!

Go Niners!

We didn't go after anyone proven (FA or trade)

Many said wait for the Draft....ok understood... now after the draft we didn't get anyone...

Who was available to us in free agency, trade or draft that that is a guaranteed improvement over our current roster at edge rusher?

All such free agents were franchised. No one is trading such an edge rusher. Chubbs went before we had a pick.

You are suggesting they just draft that position to get bodies there, but if they aren't projected by the coaches to be any better than the current roster that is poor value use of draft picks. They *did* bring in a free agent they liked for competition, but since he's unproven and not a top name people dismiss it (even though fans want to draft unproven players and criticize then for not bringing those guys in).

Everyone here wants an all-pro Hall of Fame edge rusher. Shanalynch want that guy, too. He wasn't available to them.

A lot of people are gonna scream bloody murder when the team fails to win the Super Bowl this year because their expectations for the rebuild have gone way out of control. Slow it down. Breathe. Realize they are only in offseason #2 of a complete overhaul, and that you can't get every wishlist all-pro via free agency and the draft every offseason.

Barring some amazing development, we're not going to have a good pass-rush this year. We probably won't even have an average one. We just don't have any real talented pass rushers. We just have to hope that the offense is good enough to offset an average defense until next year where maybe there will be better options.

well those people who are expecting SBs. Yes, they deserve to be disappointed if they have those expectations.

but I think its fair criticism if we still finish almost dead last in Sacks again. And their solution is to just keep drafting a bunch of Big Ends for some inexplicable reason that I can't figure out.

I can sort of see the plan right now with them saying

"Okay, let's beef up the secondary by bringing in a bunch of competition with the defensive backs. Plus hopefully a healthy Richard Sherman. Maybe that will give the pass rush some extra time to get to the QB since we can cover longer. Also we won't be going three and out with Hoyer and Beathard all the time, so the defense won't be gassed and maybe play a little bit better knowing that Jimmy G can control time of possession".

I hope they are right.

Anyone thinking wide 9 Jason Babin type role? Isolate Buck and Thomas while Attaochu attacks from the elephant?

I hope that teary eye moment from Kyle's comment actually helps him get plenty of QB sacks this year....

I think he gets 7 firm. I'm standing by Jerry getting 8, Marsh 7,and pita 5 getting 20 combined atleast.

If we make a trade or add Elvis, I'll reconfigure.

Keys are Harold as base SAM, Buck and Thomas.
