It hurts me in the feels.

Huh? Can be argued? Athleticism is not subjective. Attouchu's numbers, which were from his pro day, are worse than Eli's.

Here is Eli's spider chart. His 10-yard split is ELITE :

The point is that athleticism doesn't equate to a good edge player. It's important but edge is first and foremost a skill position, and Eli has very little skill.

Exactly!

Maybe we're looking at different sources for Attaochu's pro day. Here's mine: http://draftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=104968&draftyear=2014&genpos=

Some of those numbers are better, some are worse. I said it can be argued, not that it's certain. There isn't a huge separation between the two, IMO. I don't view testing numbers as absolute measures, either.

I didn't mean to start an argument, just wanted to point out that Attaochu was an impressive athlete, too. My bad.
No worries.

Barring health, Attouchu is the exception at edge for whom we can get excited. Nobody is excited about Eli.

Yeah, it's hard to get excited about any of the other edge guys.

I'm putting all my excite eggs in the offensive basket.

I hope Marsh does break out, but most likely he won't be a double-digit sack kind of guy. He never had more than 7 sacks in a season in college. He'll be in his 5th year in the NFL this year. Perhaps the experience and time in this system will give him a boost going into this season, but I'm expecting ideally from him to cap out around 8 sacks.

Attaochu on the other hand has the much higher upside of the two. He is also entering his fifth year in the NFL, he is the superior athlete, and he has the stats dating back from college (back to back double-digit sack seasons coming out) to back up that potential. Just hasn't been healthy, missing 25 out of 64 games (about 40% of possible games) in his career so far. If he can finally be healthy with us, I wouldn't be shocked for him to steal a bunch of playing time from Marsh.

The passion and emotion fueling the fire of that competition benefits us either way. Both are trying to earn extensions/pay-days, so it benefits them to ball out for us.

I'm with you. After joining us on November 22nd, Marsh played 189 snaps (3rd down rusher behind base Thomas) to finish the season playing in 6 games. That's about 32 snaps a game or 500 total snaps (half of the annual defensive snaps). During those 189 snaps, he had 10 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 FF.

That puts him in the 5-6 sack range + whatever Solomon Thomas can add. If Thomas can add 6 and both can bring consistent ER pressure, that's solid production from the LEO.

Marsh is 6'3" 265-270 with 32.75" arms and a 7.08 3-cone. You'd like to see sub-7 there for ER's but he's very close. He certainly has a nice first explosive step, good bend and good closing speed (goes for the ball).

Conversely, I'm high on Attaochu as well. And I think he'll be rushing from the strong side on the exact same downs as Marsh. He's much harder to project because we don't know how many snaps he'll get but most likely 350-500 like Marsh.

He has great upside at 6'3" 252 pounds with 33" arms. He clocked in at 4.58 and a 4.63 forty. 37.5 VJ, 7.28 3-cone, 4.64 short shuttle. 1.55, 1.60 ten yard split.

For now, we only have Elvis Dumervil from last year as a reference and he had 6.5 sacks on only 341 total snaps...impressive on so few snaps.

I could've sworn Marsh was in the upper 240s to 250s? Either way, I want to see one of the two produce 7+ sacks this coming season.

I'd be surprised if Marsh had more than 3 sacks on the year. I'm setting the line at 3.5 and taking the under.

Lol yea that's what I'm expecting.

Does anyone have highlights or tape or anything so I can get hyped about marsh?

I'd doubt he's made enough plays in the NFL for anybody to even make any highlights. I'm sure he has some from college.

The only video I could find with professional plays contained 2, both on special teams, the rest were college plays.

Yea I just did a search and found the same clip. And that wasn't even him on that 1st tackle. That was a black guy.

Last LA drive in the 2nd half of the second meeting, I thought Marsh was impressive. Sorry can't give you the time stamp where it occurred, but I thought, overall, Marsh was pretty impressive in that game.

The game against their back ups?

Yeah, against an undrafted Rams LT Darrell Williams, but Cassius was chip blocked and doubled from that side. He created enough pressure with Buckner to create a turnover about 18 seconds left in the 1st half of the 2nd Rams game. Overall, I think he dominated the Rams LT in that game. I think he had another strip sack called back for a penalty later in the game also. I'm not saying he's the next Michael Strahan, but he has a good first step and he has good hand fighting ability, and he can bend and explode to the QB. The guy never stops until the whistle blows. He basically made Aaron Lunch expendable - despite how talented Aaron was from a physical point of view.
