I hope it's a "Preseason Vanilla" reason.

I doubt it has anything to do with vanilla.

I watched him the whole first drive and any other time I could find him. His pass rush sucks. Unless he's just not showing his pass rush moves because of preseason (which i doubt) all he can do is try and speed around the edge and it never works. He's got no power and has no real moves being a speed rush that OTs can handle with their eyes closed. Our pass rush is in serious trouble.

Can I ask you this, how many sacks or pressures did Aldon Smith have in 2011 and 2012 preseason?

Marsh is no where NEAR the talent aldon was, but I get your point it's preseason and there's a lot of vanilla d. Then there's guys like Marcus rush who look like a 10 plus sack guy during the preseason

I was watching Attaochu, he looked rusty. Marsh didn't do anything exotic like any stunts or inside rushes with the ones. He pretty much played big end on nickel and was a contain man. Pita has the explosion and the quickness, but they are bringing him along slowly. He is still playing with the threes. He was able to flush out the QB from the pocket in the late 4rth QTR. Still disappointed that there was no sacks on that last drive by the Texans.

Also the Texans were throwing a lot of quick passes and screens to negate the pass rush. I think the pass rushers could have pinned their ears back more if we were ahead more. That turnover by Williams hurt, we were in the redzone and then also the penalty by Richburg hurt, and too us out of scoring. I think if we were a TD or two ahead, we might have had more hits and sacks on the QB.

Why are some surprised about Marsh???

All you have to do is watch all of this sacks last year... most, if not at all, came from free runs at the QB.

Shanny should've kept his mouth shut regarding our "pass rushers".

Yup exactly, I wasn't comparing Aldon Smith to Marsh, just pointing out that it's all vanilla and we can all put the panic button away for now.

Disagree. Marsh was a credible pass rusher last year. He's not Aldon, obviously, but he's not Eli either. He needs a good DT to play next to him in order to work his quickness and speed on the stunts and dogs, to free him up to hit the QB.

So... what is his specialty? Speed?...lol

What makes him a credible pass rusher?

Really disappointed thus far in the preseason with him. Hope that doesn't carry over into the regular season.

It's not. He wouldn't start on any other team in the nfl. There was never any reason to believe this year would be different.
Marsh is just a guy. I'll be stunned if he gets more than 3 sacks this year. I think he'll be more effective in the games that Saleh calls.

This

Marsh has been a scrub his entire career.

we get rid of the only decent pass rusher on the team in elvis and then lynch collects all this garbage, keeps some garbage like eli and aa and hopes the fans will buy his b******t that we will be a better pass rushing team

That sounds like a good thing.

so what will you say as you kick the can further down the road when the games start and we still set there with no pass rush. the team dumped t elvis and had no plan to bring in someone better.

I think he did ok against the Texans. It's not like the Texans scored a billion points when Marsh was in there. The defense overall, with Marsh and Attaochu in there - held the Texans to low points for the most part. I still have hope that Attaochu can regain his form and get rid of the rust, and I think Marsh didn't really do anything fancy when he played the Texans - just a straight bull rush and speed rush, and that's pretty much it. I'm not ignorant that this defense still needs a truly legit pass rusher though.

Well, I think ShanaLynch has the inside track on getting Mack. There are articles saying he might go to Green Bay, but those writers forget that Mack has to OK any trades and he can still vote *not* to sign with Green Bay *after* his rookie contract expires. That, I think, is a big factor in whether or not Green Bay will trade for him or not.
