We already have an passing game coordinator and a QB coach.

Excuse me sir, I don't believe that special offensive assistant to the head coach is taken. And if it is then he can be head assistant consultant of offensive operations.

Cool, they'd still have a 30 year old Cooper Kupp coming off another lower body injury, a 35 year old QB with back issues, Aaron Donald who said he'd retire if McVay did, a weak OL and no draft picks.

Seems to be a new trend starting where HC are mortgaging the future to win now and then bailing when it starts to fall apart so they dont have to deal with the s**t storm they created

-Peyton in NO
-McVay in LA

I agree with Phoenix. It wasn't just the trade to get Stafford. The Rams also traded away a bunch of draft capital to obtain others players though trades, or paid highly through free agency. There comes a time when the Piper must be paid, and that time may have arrived for the Rams. The bill may be due (I'm not sure, or close enough to that situation to realize what kind of trouble the team might be in), which may be one reason why McVay is ready to walk away.

I think it's a bad idea to trade a bunch of future first round draft picks to get a certain player, OR improve draft position to obtain a certain player. I though it was a mistake for Shanahan to trade away so much draft capital to draft Trey Lance. Just in case someone wants to call me a racist, I would have felt the same way if Shanahan had made the same deal to draft Brock Purdy. Race or color is irrelevant to me. Not when it comes to the game of football.

I do understand that Bill Walsh helped to jumpstart this trend when he engineered a trade to improve draft position in 1986. That's the year he grabbed Jerry Rice before the Cowboys could. But Walsh didn't trade away future first round picks. He WAS willing to trade away the 1st, 2nd and 3rd 49er picks in the 1986 draft to New England to get the Patriots first round pick. That was the 16th pick in the first round of the draft, and the WR that Walsh really wanted (Eddie Brown) had already been drafted. So, Walsh "settled" on Rice instead. Or, at least that is how the story goes.

I am of the belief that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have acted as a team to draft some really good players. I do think they are probably the best duo at obtaining talent in the later rounds since the days of Bill Walsh and John McVay. That is evident with this year's draft, which may eventually go down as the best ever under the current regime. This is provided, of course, Brock Purdy brings home the hardware of a Super Bowl trophy.

He's walking out young, will be paid af as a broadcaster and knowing that he'll be a hot coaching candidate when/if he decides to return.

I'm questioning his mentality..but

A hot coaching candidate who walks out when there's the slight hint of adversity ..idk about that.

Plus he's under contact for 3 more years.. who will trade for him after not coaching for however long and can't coach when there's a rough road

Payton has been Head coaching for 15 years, Mcvay gave up after 4.5 years. Would be a pretty desperate team to go after McVay

6 seasons, made it to 2 SBs and won one. He achieved more than Payton did in less than half the time. Yeah he'll have a market.

sorry, 5.5 seasons. he inherited a team and traded to get his SB. He won't be able to build a team.. And that market needs to on the verge of winning a SB cause he will cost draft picks to get him and he will set your team back with trading for other players with any draft capital they have

maybe he can follow the harbaugh route
