According to some talking heads the total deal was going to be close to the $45m guaranteed mark over the first 3 years. $30m guaranteed in the first two years and signing bonus close to the tag money he would have been spread out over 3 years.

He has said that he wants to set the market for other RBs in the league. That deal would have got any other RB being tagged next season a s**tload more money.

Not too smart imo. Well see how it plays out for him.

Yeah not really...it's all about that fully guaranteed cash end of the day

This will be his last yr in Pitt...dude will make $30 million fully guaranteed next yr on top of the $14.5 million he gets because they tagged him.

Based on that report that contract looks like Pitt is covering their ass on a year to year bases.
Rolling guarantee for $33m. Plus the $10m signing bonus = $43m over 3 years.
$33m base / 3 years = $11m base salary
$10m bonus / 3 years = $3.3m singing bonus
Total = $14.3m per year
So as long as he was on the roster for the next 3 years he's guaranteed the full $43m.

That's just one report. The other reported deal was said to be for 5 years and $70m. For all we know there could have been some kind of hefty injury guarantee? Much like the contract Brandon Cooks just signed.

I like the way this is playing out because I'm looking forward to seeing what he gets next year.

Only $10 million was fully guaranteed, that's the issue. A lot of early reports are always wrong (team leaked) it's all fluff numbers and a reporter wanting to be the first guy to report it.

Dude is getting more fully guaranteed cash under the tag they put on him just this yr lol. You got guys like Sammy Watkins getting a $21 million dollar signing bonuses (who's got a injured past) hell Bell had more receiving yard then him last yr ...I get Pitt covering their ass, it's smart and you got to think of the team, but IMO and that's all it is, it was a slap in the face type of offer. Not a real true offer to keep him a Steeler.

Go get your money Bell!
He will be allowed to walk at the end of the year and will get nowhere close to whatever Pitt has most recently offered. He is trying to change the perception of a position when the reality is most RB's are a dime a dozen. We have had an "Oh mai gawd the best RB, sure-fire early 1st rounder" type player available at that position in the last 4-5 drafts.

Having said that I hope he wins. I hope he raises the bar ridiculously high so it makes it that much tougher for the Rams to sign Gurley.

Why wouldn't he get more than $10 million in fully guaranteed cash next yr? That's all that matters in these deals...guaranteed money. He's gonna have a market and will only be 27.

Pittsburgh offer was a joke, especially when he's already got $14.5 million coming his way in guaranteed cash for one yr.

Look past the $70 million dollar fluff, dude wouldn't have seen that full amount no way no how.

Maybe there was an injury guarantee? Without knowing the full details it's hard to say. If the contract was for 5 years $70m and $40m was guaranteed even if injured that's a major difference.

yup who knows.
The position is no longer a priority and guys come in off the street and produce. What's the lifespan of an NFL running back? Less than 5 years my guess and that covers the rookie contract, why pay big money for diminishing returns. I'm all for NFL players getting as much as they can, the owners use them as indentured servants. Darrelle Revis retired today, now there's a guy that played the system to the fullest.

NFL reports Gurley extended, $60m 4 years with $45m guaranteed.

That's a huge contract. Hard to argue it. Im not sure I'd have done it if I were them, though he is a stud and by all accounts an absolute team 1st guy so...

Bell would be a waste...Brieda is the #3 RB in the league rushing and Morris makes for a good power back. We need defense and Oline help not RB help.

Breida is also one big hit away from going on the IR. every game he gets banged up and he's Q for next game. Bell has shown the ability to stay healthy, and is also an elite receiver.
What makes him so special against this Final Destination cursed NFL team of injury?
Will end hold out week 7
