Alex Smith and the Washington Redskins

With our own medical problems on the 49ers and a new medical team this year, here is a piece about the problems with the Redskins, including Alex Smith's issues in his recovery. Interesting.

The main difference between the two was that Luck managed five excellent years before debilitating injuries began to occur while Smith lost his fastball to the shoulder injury before he ever got a chance to work with anyone that knew what an NFL offense should look like.

I find it odd/funny that you highlight the fact that Luck got to work with Arians for 12 whole games (and said he was fortunate to do so), and then say that Smith never got to work with good offensive coaches....when he got to work with either Mike McCarthy or Norv Turner for 2 full seasons.

Very biased post dj.

The Colts had FAR more talent than the 2006 49ers, or the 2007, or 08.

McCarthy was way overrated. That has been proven by how stale the GB offense became over the years. Turner was better but he didn't have anything like what the Colts had with Arians.

However, the key point is; Luck had a very good offensive OC/HC that was able to put Luck in a good situation with an aggressive mindset. Even though it was only one full season, it had a strong positive influence on Luck. Arians mettle has been proven over the years. Smith, OTOH.....

The Colts did NOT have far more talent than the 06-08 Niners. Andrew Luck's team was awful. Awful. At the very least, Alex had a Hall of Fame running back and a generational talent at TE, and one of the best left tackles the 49ers have ever had to lean on. Luck had Reggie Wayne for one season before injuries took their toll, one of the worst offensive lines in recent football history, and absolutely zero running game.

I know this is the Alex Smith thread, so excuses for him will be running rampant. But every single excuse used for Alex Smith in his early time in SF can be used for Andrew Luck, yet somehow Luck was able to put up great stats and lead his team to the playoffs. Luck took over a 2 win team and had that team in the playoffs each of the next 3 years.

Andrew Luck was a top 10 QB. maybe higher. him and Alex shouldn't even be considered in the same category. Luck just had that "it" factor and was a stud. Alex is a solid QB, but they shouldn't be compared. Alex is a GOOD QB, but Luck was much better.

OK. Enough. I take back all the good stuff I ever said about Smith, along with all the bad stuff I said about Nolan and Hostler and Singletary and all of that.

Anybody have any Redskin news?

What are the chances of Haskins replacing Keenum?

Who wins the Trent Williams auction?

enough what? I was talking to SWH as well as just mentioning how Andrew Luck was a better QB than Alex Smith.

he's had his fair share of sucky seasons. finally had a super good MVP caliber season, but tailed off toward the 2nd half. was still MVP level though. other than most of his time with the Chiefs, he does suck for the most part.

Likely somewhere around 100%. You know how it goes. Once the season is lost the bridge qb gets taken out.
since his whole leg contraption is off, what's the timeline realistically looking like now for him to return to the NFL?

If I were him I'm calling it a day. Dude has a smoking hot wife, enough cash. That was rough the injury, but the surgery that followed and rehab issues. I wouldn't push it.

that's what i've been saying, regardless, he's still in Quarterback meetings with the redskins and participating. Wonder what the updated timetable is. apparently their medical training staff are questionable

+1

Almost lost the leg and his rehab sounds extreme. He's also going to have to compete against a much younger first round pick that they've invested in.

Geez. Dude is so solid. After all that he's been through he's still there helping the team. Lesser players (and people) would stay away and just count their money.

Verbal warnings of many in this thread - not exclusive to you - are easily located. Sorry if you took that bit personally. It was intended to refer to the general warning that mods give in here when the thread heats up.
Anyhow, it seems that you missed the point: This thread is a useless circle-jerk with posts from the same 5-6 people about the same old s**t. Nothing changes. I wish it was locked.

There's not much to talk about until we know more about his leg. Everything that can be said about him beyond that is just recycled opinion.

Solid? OMG. Let's debate this. Guys, come on in, it's time
